At some point big isn't fun but cumbersome, besides the whole space thing. Think it is a difference in ideology, they expect to fool around with stuff versus stick it on a shelf. I think that's part of of the success and why the Diaclone reboot is rather small compared to MP's they're perfect fiddle material and they have much more of a hardcore base over there than transformers. Takara announces MP-44 and people here cry about chasing the fandom out, Diaclone drops releases every month and drop a 50000 yen bottom half of a figure and it's like let's go.

I love fooling around with big boys like this, though. That heft is satisfying (and most figures at that size are actually really fun to transform, aside from XTB Menasor). After having Zeta scale combiners and Omega Supreme for so long it's kind of weird seeing people talk about Skyfire like he's cumbersomely big.

 

Love this pic. From what I've seen MP-57 looks to have the edge in playability and engineering (it's gorgeously executed from start to finish), but if I'm being honest I still prefer the aesthetics of Phoenix. MP-57 may be what Skyfire actually looked like but Phoenix is what a younger me remembered Skyfire looking like (added detailing/bulk and all, blame Gundam and Brave for influencing my mecha tastes) and all things being equal I'll always lean toward the latter. That said, there's no denying TT knocked it out of the park on this one, what a fantastic release!

 

Both look great. I don't really feel the need to replace my Phoenix after seeing the side by side shot. If I didn't have Phoenix, then this would be an easy buy without a doubt.

Skyfire definitely highlights the need for more diversity on the shelf, no little guys, no Dinobots, even Blaster or Perceptor would help to break things up.

 

How about some safety green for the other team ?
