Sold my siege Jetfire a while ago, cause he had some issues I didn\'t like (QC wise), might get this to replace him

I'll never understand why people who don't like MPs or a specific MP, and prefer other toy lines, feel the need to go into the MP thread just to deliberately trash an MP and belittle those who do like said MP.
Seriously, stowe the superiority complex. If you prefer and enjoy a different line, by all means enjoy it. Be respectful and let others enjoy their MPs as well. :rolleyes2
Personally, I'm super excited for MP Skyfire. I also have the Siege, SG and 30th Anniversary Skyfire and love each of them. I'm equally as excited for Dark Amber Lio, MPM Nemesis, Burnout, Yukikaze, Suiken and Seizan (I'm collecting the trainbots in memory of my Dad). :)

I'm really happy for everyone who likes how this looks, I truly am. Engineering wise, it looks great. I just wish those of us who prefer more mechanical detailing over smooth cartoony paneling could have viable MP options. I don't mean to dampen anyone's excitement, I just can't help but feel a little jealous that all these cool characters are being made with an aesthetic that's not aligned with my personal tastes.

It's not for me. But I really wish it could be.

Considering the fact that HasTak has been on a bender for complete toon accuracy lately, it’s odd that the pectoral parts don’t sit flush with the fuselage on the center of the torso… It makes it look like it isn’t correctly transformed and ends up kind of unsightly IMO.

Please note I’m not bashing the figure, just noting an oddity on it. I’m not tossing my Phoenix for this, but I can understand those that go this route as Phoenix is hard to find and expensive now.

I think it varies per scene. For example:

    230px-Jetfireskyfire.jpg

    Doesn't sit flush here.

Edit - it doesn't seem to sit flush in the cartoon at all. Interesting.

Nice when TFs have special meaning for us eh. :)

Re: trashing figures, it’s totally natural to compare these things with one another, and as I’ve said many times before (more or less) it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks of whatever figure, if we find enjoyment in them ourselves.

Over the years I’ve seen (and replied to) negative comments about some of my most cherished MPs, and made more than a few negative comments myself, but I’ve found that being on the offence/defence towards these things strips away the fun and seems more tied to tribalism than anything else.

With that said, while it’s something I’m mindful of, I still have to force myself not reply on occasion haha. Part of being a human with silly emotions I guess hahah.

It’s so easy for criticisms of the things we like to seem like attacks on our preferences, but again do we really need to give a flying f*ck what anyone else thinks?

Hyped for this guy to arrive though, he looks like he stepped off the screen. I have a few quibbles about the underside of the jet, and the way the kneecaps seem to go up with the thigh instead of sticking up from the shins but that's just a personal bugbear having gotten used to so many figures doing it the other way.

Also, the minifigs are adorable and fun af, can't wait to mess about with them.

All that said, this one is where I cap out, size wise and if they ever were to announce a Omega or Devastator, I'd skip them. Got no room for such monstrous hulks of plastic.

This is exactly how I feel. Like, I’m impressed they were able to get it so close to a simple ‘80s cartoon aesthetic but it’s just too simple and smooth looking for my taste.

This exactly sums it up. And I like all the interpretations I have. MP-57 I said is awesome and he still is.

The way I see it, with the way the MP line has largely gone with the cartoon accurate aesthetic with few exceptions in the last 5+ years, if an MP Skyfire was to ever be made, it would be more consistent to start with a cartoon accurate one. Especially since the Skyfire design was unique to the cartoon and there’s never been an official MP Skyfire before this. Sure we had SIEGE Jetfire but that design(which looks out of place with MPs especially recent ones) used G1 Skyfire’s animation design as design inspiration rather than trying to replicate it completely. MP-57 opted for the latter.

With MP-57 now accomplishing that goal, there’s room to take on a more detailed MP Skyfire later if TakaraTomy sees enough demand to justify it but I wouldn’t think it would be anytime soon.

As a fan of both G1 Skyfire from the cartoon and the G1 Jetfire toy, I’m not taking it for granted that Takara made this toy. I never expected to see an MP Skyfire and the subtle homages I see to the G1 Jetfire toy(and the Macross VF-1S Super Valkyrie design it was based on) stuck out to me in a good way. Maybe they’re a nod to Kawamori Shoji who made Macross and worked on some of the Diaclone toys later repainted as the original G1 Transformers(as well as helping with MP-03 Starscream and designing Hybrid Style Convoy 20+ years ago).

Honestly though, I feel that the Seige Jet/Skyfire fills the "stylized with added detail" niche for those who prefer something less toon accurate but still can be considered a G1 representation. He may be a tad bit small, but he still towers over the larger leader MP.

And then there's the leader class from some years back that is so much it's own thing that the lack of height doesn't kill the vibe. He's about the same size as the seekers in both bot and vehicle mode. Pheonix has a touch of stylization, too.

I'm definitely getting this one, as I feel show accurate is the way to go (for ALL MP lines, not just G1). The mainline can do all the bells and whistles, such as the SS line or Alternators, for cheaper at that. Fortunately there are options for everyone.

Just because it looked dorky in the cartoon doesn\'t mean you need to make the toy look dorky too.

I dunno, if Hasbro did a double-pack of Spiderman and Peter Parker or Captain America as Steve Rogers before the serum, I don't think it would make sense to make scrawny Parker or Rogers buff and heroic like their latter counterparts. It's kinda how I feel about the "for better or worse" astectics of the MP. Bumblebee wouldn't look right if he did look like a plump lil preteen, Trailbreaker's dad gut, and so on.
