MP-52 Starscream was released recently and some copies have flaws. Some seem common, who knows, doubtful this is another Hound scenario but time will tell. This thread isn’t to fear monger but to track flaws to see how it pans out in the long run. The flaws on my copy seem to stem from rough assembly and/or something to do with how the pins/rivets are fired. So I’m not sure if tracking by production number will matter but if you want to post yours, go for it. This thread can also be used for fixes.

    Issues on my copy:
    • Cracked base(grey painted piece) beneath right vertical stabilizer, cracked the 1st time the vertical stabilizer was very carefully and slowly swiveled for transformation. Hasn’t cracked further despite swiveling the vertical stabilizer fast back and forth.
    • Cracked cylinders/posts where the ankles/feet attach. Swiveled ankles back and forth, haven’t cracked further

Nothing major on my copy but as I do want to make TT aware of these issues I sent it over to them and now awaiting a replacement.

On my figure I had the following issues:
-hairline crack around the vertical stabilizer joint
-2 or 3 stress marks around some of the joints on the wing assembly
-stress mark around one of the the null ray pin joints
-crooked Decepticon symbols on back of wings
    -non-locking right shoulder intake

Didn’t have any of the other documented issues (forearm covers not closing, double face plates, loose/cracked ankle joints).

Forgot, my copy’s forearms don’t close all the way when the hands are out.
Just curious, if they repair yours, do they explain how they actually repaired it? Also how’s MP-52 doing in Japan? Asking since it was released there 1st.

So far, I don’t think they’ve ever actually done repairs lol. It’s always just a replacement for me so far. I’ll rephrase my post.

As for how it’s doing, I’ve got no idea. Don’t really keep tabs on the domestic scene. There’s no good message board like TFW2005, it’s all just Twitter and stuff, which I don’t really do.

Mine has a small crack on the right stabilizer post and a couple stress marks on one of the side pieces and one of the foot joints. On mine, the left hip joint has almost no ratcheting to it. It's in good shape structurally, I disassembled it to check if something was broken, but it's all good. It holds poses just fine, but makes almost no noise when moving.

On the left hip joint, does it have a spring ratchet for forwards/backwards movement?

So far none, only issue I had were my vertical stabilizers wouldnt rotate at all when I first got him. Had to use a combination of hairdryer and grease. I'm watching to see if it develops cracks as there's still some resistance even after the grease.

No cracks on mine yet but I had to use shock oil on the right tail fin rivet housing. The tail fin spins but it is very tight and I worry it may form a crack. The left tail fin spins nicely with the proper amount of resistance. No problems there.

    Other minor problems:
Right ankle is pretty loose but it has no cracks to the post holding the rivet.
Left ankle is slightly loose, also no cracks to the post holding the rivet.
Left forearm doesn't sit fully flush.
Missing the slight smiling face and have an extra neutral face.

Everything else is good and no major damage.

I should have been more specific. This is for the in and out joint on the hip. Forward and backwards works just fine. The joint on mine that is having an issue is just a plastic ring with teeth and a peg with two teeth that goes inside it. When I have it disassembled and work the joint, it clicks just fine. I've tried tightening and loosening the spring but it doesn't change anything.

Cracks on both my vertical stabilizer mounts. I tried to check the feet as one of the exhaust ports feels looser than the other, but I couldn't visually verify any cracks around the foot area when I inspected the post. Agabyss is claiming they can secure parts so I'm waiting to see what the status is of new vertical stabilizer sections.

    -Multiple paint smudges
    -Left ankle loose not cracked
-Flaps on legs dont want to stay tabbed
-Shoulder joint is off color and stands out
-Pins and rivets loose in a few places

This all initial looking over. Will check more in depth later and update list if needed. I knew I shouldn't have but really expected them to nail it this time. I mean 3 tries on one character...

How does one send back to takara??

I received 2 copies, the first one I opened sadly had the cracked pin post on the right ankle, which isn't allowing it to stand. The other is nearly flawless, able having some loose jet exhausts, but that's an easy fix with some Kiki's joint tightener.

He lives in Japan so is able to use Takara for service. Anyone outside Japan cannot.

Both of my 2 copies have zero cracks or breaks. Neither have any looseness in joints, too.

I’m sooo jealous! My copy is in pieces because I’m still trying to get him to stand up without falling over. It’s pretty pathetic. Fingers crossed that Thundercracker turns out better. They seem to assemble these figures around two months ahead of delivery so Thundercracker is most likely being assembled very soon.

They don’t make them like they used to. But seriously, I’m dreading opening my copy after glancing at some of the documented damage.

OK here's a weird one, the radar antennae (mounted on the top of the vertical stabilizers) on my copy are different sizes
