Anyone know if it’s possible to swap the backpack/front grill of truck with another Prime? I have to return a Prime for the knees. My new one is perfect except for the backpack not being flushed as reported. Ironically, my broken Prime has the flush backpack.
I would think doing an entire leg swap would be easier than thecback pack.
Thanks! I was afraid of that haha. The old one has a paint chip on his rib too so I think i’ll just live with it unless there’s an easy-ish way to swap backpack.
I think it was planned as a separate piece since on paper it may sound like the different material tolerances might work. However I think a final qc check prior to final production WASN'T done in an effort to save money so whatever worked in the CAD design and resin prototype, didn't work in actual execution due to different material tolerances and a final qc check prior to final production not being implemented.
There probably was a good reason behind the pieces being molded separately and cast in different materials, however the fact that it doesn't work as intended, should've been caught before production even began.
BTW Takara isn't alone in rushing product to market without all the kinks worked out before production, they aren't the only Japanese toy company, let alone Japanese company that's done this recently. You'd be surprised. Seems like the mentality now is to pay attention to the flaws that the initial buyers catch, THEN work with the factory to correct them, rather than correct them before production even starts.
Flush backpack fix:
I can teach you how to do a backpack swap, although it’d take quite a bit of time and effort. DM me if interested.
Dude ?! How many mods are there now ? Anyway we can sticky the mods in the first post ? The knee mods , the gas tank mods , antennae mods , backpack mods .. pending on who needs what , we can just go right to the fix for it . Also ,crazy thanks for all the help and research you’ve been doing !
Heres what TFS-EXPRESS told me about my figure when i followed up.
"Thanks for your update. It is same to Hasbro/TT, customers have to fix some issues by themselves for such expensive items."
Masterpiece Transformers, now featuring optional hobbyist model kit functionality, with facilitation of complete disassembly, painting, sanding, modification, and top coat application. For the truly hardcore hobbyist!
No but seriously, Brutiking et al, you are all heroes for this. When I finally do get one (even if I hold off for a hopeful eventual official knee fix in a second run, I'll still get one regardless if they don't) I will definitely be using this topic as a resource. Even if I still adamantly believe we should not have to be doing this. Thank-you for all your work.
I mean, I do agree too that these shouldn't be required, but I'm an impatient guy and I like having my MP-44 now lol. If I have the skills to fix it, I'd at least like to try and also share my fixes with others who would like to try or are in the same scenario as me. But if you do have any issues in the future, feel free to DM me
I am kinda a hardcore hobbyist lol. Especially when kitbashing my gunpla.
There are gas tank mods?! Thanks btw and will do.
Did the glue fix and now I can hear both lower knee joints making nice clicky ratchet noises.
Not going to tempt fate though and shall refrain from bending them unnecessarily.I
Thanks to everyone in this community who takes the time to help others out.
Its disgusting! Yes we can fix it ourselves, but there are customers out there who maybe are not to confident in taking apart £300 piece.
Yeah, I wasn't too confident myself with taking an expensive figure apart.
But I too got an email from TFS saying they are waiting for a response from Hasbro before they can help.
So decided to give it a try, and it thankfully worked out ok after losing a spring that bounced off my head and a small blue ratchet half that took half hour to find despite dropping right in front of me.
This is me. I wouldn’t feel confident taking apart a twenty dollar deluxe, let alone this beast. Looks like I might be waiting for TT to fix this.
No need for blue text, I see you as literally the hardcore hobbyist lol. And that's a good thing.
At least they told you they were trying to get a response. They directed me back here where i was already following. Didn't even try to reach out. Customer service is lacking a bit IMO.
I can’t agree more about everything that has been said about @BrutiKing ! The guy is a true hero! Thank you
Thanks guys! A little update on the topcoat tutorial. Got all these pieces done: I even tried scratching the grey with my nails at a reasonable amount of pressure. This paint isn’t coming off!
