I'm sure if you were able to talk to CS they can adjust the import fee cost. Only problem is the language barrier.

 

Just made a Japanese Amazon account, mainly cause I was curious as to the price difference between it and HLJ which is what i've always tended to use. HLJ is $346 CAD BEFORE shipping and potential customs. AJ cost me $365 CAD total...

Actually, there's no real need to pre-order, especially if you're already locked into a very low price.
Although Amazon.co.jp does actually charge the amount of the original duties (based on original pricing at time of the pre-order), in the past (with MP Megatron and MP Sunstreaker), I've always received an automatic charge back from AJ on my credit card for the difference between charged import fees and actual import fees, a couple of days after the order goes through. The charge-back isn't fast, but it is automatic and honest. I guess that's why they call it an 'Import Fees Deposit'.

 

You don't, they do it automatically once you place your order. You'll get an email from your CC company about a $0.01 charge.

The path is clear.

Just a FYI to this: after the item has shipped you'll get an e-mail from Amazon.co.jp about this, but it will be worded almost entirely in Japanese, including the e-mail topic (which will be ご注文の返金について(XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX) with the actual order number instead of the XX's), so it'll be easy to miss or to dismiss as spam.

And I just checked in my mail: it seem to take a LONG time to get this charge back. For example, I received the shipping mail from Amazon.co.jp on December 28th 2017, but only received the charge back e-mail from AJ on February 16th 2018. Personally, I don't mind as long as I get the money back sometime, but it might be annoying for some...

 

Amazon japan also has excellent customer service should a problem arise. My Diaclone Big Powered has a broken part and they exchanged it with no issues just like amazon.com.

Yep. $223 shipped as of right now... Weren't people paying that for stateside MP G1 Megatron a year or so ago?
Hell wasn't stateside Takara MP-10 going for like $250 at some point??

I guess I'm stll too conservative for my own good in these things. And I also want to support local e-tailers, I guess.
I was seriously burned on import tax on a package from TFSource a while back. So I'm even more reluctant to shop internationally now.

 

You haven't been reading the latest posts, have you? People are getting pre-orders from Amazon.jp for less than that, including shipping.

 

Compared to the price at a Canadian collector store and what I purchased at Anime Export, I saved $138 CAD.
