that's the hasbro release of the original MP Hot-Rod/Rodimus prime from 2011. It had two vehicle modes and two robot modes to represent him before and after he got the matrix

Ah, thanks. I actually like the look of that one, but MP-40 also looks nice.

For this scale chart the new MP Hot-Rod scales perfectly for his pre-prime size, while the old masterpiece fits his bigger Prime height sunbow_s3.jpg

The first MP Rodimus looks almost perfect... standing still. It had a lot of issues thanks to cramming so much into one figure. There were reports of breakage and a lot of parts had trouble tabbing.

MP-09 still looks better than any other Rodimus released up to date, it was simply ahead of its time and the materials were not very good. As a display piece is amazing, more so if you got one of the reconstructed ones. I have a V2 I'm considering selling while the going is good, as I have zero doubt TT will make him again.

Hot rod always gets so screwed.  I have the original mp rodimus and it is not really great.  Parts of it are good but it has a lot of problems.  The masterpiece line still has a ways to go.  It is like they are encouraging us to skip releases at this point.  This one looks ok but I still might pass, again on this mold, because I did not get the first one.  I would probably still go with the first because the fishing pole is rad.  PotP Rodimus might be the worst figure of the entire line, he is such garbage.  I was so stoked to get him and he is the biggest dissapointment I have had in a long time.  Look at the crotch on this one, I mean that is not a masterpiece wang at all.

Yeah earlier someone was asking if they could change it with the original and I couldn’t agree more.

It was coloured white in the episodes that Hot Rod had this deco, as animated by AKOM.

I really need to budget for this thing. There are two items on the list in front of it, but this thing just looks glorious and definitely worth a second mold purchase. I may even need the G1 Targetmaster at some point to go with it.

The arms are technically exactly the same on MP 40, but getting this guy in hand I was shocked at how much the deco seems to have made them look better (I now have both versions). All I can figure is between the base figure being darker, the absence of bright shoulder squares and the white at his cratch an optical illusion is created that pulls your eyes away from the awkward arm gaps.

It's the same arms, but I'd make a point of watching reviews for MP 40. It looks so much better. I'm honestly shocked.

Why has Takara for the second time on this mold decided to put BRIGHT ORANGE plastic under the thin layer of chrome that always come off?
You can even see it in these pictures on his arms.

Why does this keep happening? either -
    - Make the plastic black/grey underneath and make the chrome thicker.
    - Instead of chrome just make the plastic metallic to begin with.

    Such an annoying oversight.

Interesting that the new Firebolt is essentially misassembled. Is it just me, or is Firebolt's neck also longer than Offshoot's?

No chrome is coming off this time around and the chrome is much thicker. But agreed it could've been grey plastic at least under the chrome.

When TT produce a Transformer there's a limit to how many different kinds of plastic they use. Must be part of how moulds work. There are probably certain kinds of plastic which chrome adheres better to, also. The only bare plastic on Hot Rod is either orange, dark red or black. I guess the black plastic of his lower legs wasn't suitable for his chrome parts as well. There's probably an explanation for this, would be interesting to hear more from people working in toy manufacturing.

The spots where you see the bare plastic under the chrome are from the sprue marks. The chrome seems pretty durable this time around.

Now that you mention it, yes. I just double checked and his neck is indeed longer.
