Ok, seriously, anyone complaining about the "butt flap" on this guy has got to be trolling. There is no way that can bother anyone. I can see the buttflap on Magnus bothering some people even though it doesn't bother me, but the "flap" on this one is so minuscule that you can't even see it from the front. Are you planning on displaying your Sunstreaker in a pornstar pose on his back with his legs spread out up in the air or something? Grow up people. You can be upset about anything else on this figure from the cartoony head to the faux chest to the backpack, but the butt flap is just stupid. There, I don't care. I've seen some nitpicky crap here before, but that just takes the cake. I'm not even kidding here.

I wonder which route they took w/ the windshield, the BC w/ 2 windshields a smaller one for bot mode, regular for car mode or the OG windshield where 1 is used for both modes?

The articulation/engineering and adherence to toon accuracy on TT's part is very impressive, no question. But I do kinda understand how some folks may be turned off by the strict toon accuracy and (over-)use of faux parts, even though there is precedent for it in the renewed MP line (fake grill abs on Optimus, fake windscreen on Bumblebee, fake nosecones for the Coneheads, etc.). It kinda sorta does defeat the purpose of transformation if it was like over 50% use of fake parts (similar to shellformers if the shell collapsed and folded up into a very neat and compact backpack like it does on Sunstreaker).

MP-39 just seems to take that logical conclusion to the extreme, to me, even if part of the real Lambo roof forms some of the faux roof chest in bot mode. Sunsurge does look like he belong better next to older engineered Hasui MP figures like MP-10 Optimus and MP-12 Sideswipe (and even the MP-17-18-19 Datsun brothers with their equally big honking foot stompers made out of halved car parts), but the official Sunstreaker looks a bit out of place next to the those same two figures to me. Could be that TT remakes MP-10 and MP-12 to match the current heavily toon-inspired aesthetic but how the fan-rage would howl if that came to pass. :D

TLDR; I can see both sides of the aisle and think each side's points have their merits. It's good to have options.

Amusing that the same people that complain ENDLESSLY about a two mm buttflap are unable (choose not) to see some humongous clown shoes, anorexic legs, messy backpack and so on...

Yes, he has a butt flap, but it doesn't even go below his crotch. Good lord.

Well that would certainly not be for me but hey, if that's what people want, give them MP action masters!

For now, however I'm happy with what we're getting but I do feel it's coming to an end for me. A few more of the big names and I'm done.

Well, I say that but then if they do amazing Armada figures maybe I'll start another collection ;)

So MP 39. I have Sunsurge and I'm not getting rid of him buuuuuut. Yeah, he may move off the main display ! I'm officially on for MP39.

Yeah, but the complaint isn't that TT couldn't figure out how to eliminate the backpack. The complaint is that it doesn't look good. They presented a figure and we're allowed to make a personal decision on whether we like the way it looks. Nothing unrealistic about that.

I would agree with you if people were saying, "I can't believe that for an $80 figure they couldn't figure out how to engineer him without a backpack. Stupid engineers." But stating an opinion about how you think something looks - perfectly valid.

I didn't even notice there was a buttflap until people pointed it out. Still don't care. I want to buy it, but I just don't know if I can part with that kind of dough for a figure of this size. It was bad enough with Inferno, but at least he comes with a sizable amount of accessories, one quite large and he's roughly Leader Class sized. This is Voyager Class at best and doesn't have nearly the amount of accessories to offset the cost.

If they think covering him in paint is a selling point, they're wrong. My MP-36 has paint issues to the point where his sparkles are starting to come off on my hands and I hate (HATE) glitter (or anything like it) it's driving me insane.

If I get a pug, I will call him Buttflap. But my next dog is a Corgy. A shining Daisy like a shiny Sunstreaker :)

Stating how something doesn't look good is fine. But some are wanting small toon accurate chest but then also complain about fake chest or big back pack. If 3P or TT was able to figure out how to do small screen accurate chest without using fake parts or big back pack then they would have done that. But in order to have small chest then it needs to be fake and then the car roof needs to be stored somewhere...hence big back pack.

One thing that BadCube has over TT is that BadCube's Chip is BETTER. While TT's Chip is forever bound to his wheelchair or in a sitting position in general, BadCube's Chip has articulated legs! So you can:

    - Rip his legs completely off and make him even more crippled!
    - Put him in a provocative pose laying on Sunstreaker's hood!

    - He can push his OWN wheelchair!
    - Get him to stand up. IT'S A MIRACLE! HE CAN WALK AGAIN!

That alone should send millions of TF MP collectors flocking to buy BC's Sunsurge!
    ;)

I don't blame the fake chest for the backpack - Sunsurge also uses a fake chest and his backpack is a lot smaller. And therefore I don't blame Takara.
I blame Lamborghini for the back pack. It's almost guaranteed that it was Lambo's requirement that the custom engine be hide able and that the vehicle have a real world rear end before they would grant the licence. The backpack is required to hide all those extra parts. If it was just the fake chest the backpack would be a LOT smaller. This figure has two roofs, two engine/bonnet parts and two tailgates.
And honestly, who is going to display Sunstreaker without his chrome turbo engine block in alt mode? Anyone? He just looks like Tigertracks then. I can maybe see some people liking to have both toon accurate and real world rear bumpers, but the whole hidden engine block gimmick? That's only there because Lambo demanded it and I don't think ANYONE would be upset if the option wasn't there and we got a slimmer backpack. Takara fans get a lot of grief for giving Takara a pass on things like a butt flap or fake parts, but no-one seems to want to address the elephant in the room, which is that the bloody Lambo licence produced a stupid BULKY gimmick that absolutely no-one, ever asked for?

IMO: that backpack is too big for a car robot.

I hope it doesn't end up ruining the stability of the figure.

    That's a messy looking.
