*slowly raises hand* I would take a UBER boxy alt-mode Ironhide!

I fully agree with everything said here.

The missing mirrors and badges is what makes them not have real car accuracy. It may be a minor, forgivable point to some. But not to others. *raises hand*

And I certainly can call the back of the Fusos not real world accurate, and you can too, because they aren't real world accurate. They look like a folded-up robot on a flatbed truck. Here is one instance where I can legitimately say I prefer 3rd party over official (MMC's Backdraft)--because they made the entire truck look like a realistic fire engine, not just the cab.

Here we agree. I guess consider me a real-world extremist. (Though I am clearly seeing chibi Minibots in our future.)

Even the Hasui era cars are missing plenty of "real world accuracy" Sideswipe is missing tons of black coloring, and a good deal of specific markings, Smokescreen's car body is totally wrong, and missing tons of markings. Prowl is specifically a Japanese police car with generic US markings. Nearly all are missing small details like painted door handles or front indicator lights.

Where do you draw the line of what is or isn't an "acceptable" missing real world detail?

If it's just paint apps that are missing I don't mind too much. It's when the sculpting itself is wrong that I start having objections. I do indeed have issues with Smokescreen.

Yeah, smokescreen is in need of a wide-body kit and proper racing wheels/rubber. It's understandable why he is the way he is though.

Point is about the Fusos, anything can be put back there, anything, therefore no one can really say they are or aren't real world. Not all cranes or Fire Trucks looked alike. If anyone wanted to bolt boxes on the chassis for no apparent reason they could and it would be real world. I personally like how the Fusos were spot on toy and toon accurate alt modes vs the artificial forced realism that was never there of the 3P. Takara paid the perfect homage to the characters, and the Fuso part was all that ever was real world. And I'm good with that.

And honestly IMO, missing mirrors isn't the end of my world at all, the rest is spot on and they're not model cars. I personally have no issue with Smokescreen, while the real car was more like Jazz in shape, his toon model was not, nor was his g1 toy.

And about Chibi alt modes, I can see only Gears, Pipes, Huffer, Swerve and maybe Cosmos being more chibi since those don't have real specific counterparts. But even then, they can still make them non chibi and proportioned to their similar vehicle counterparts.

Love those mate, just reaffirms to me how much i would need toy-accurate faces on those repaints, though.

I'd settle for something completely new a la Road Rage too, though.

I take heart from what they did with Loudpedal and Exhaust, though. Fingers crossed.

For me, the answer is simple: if the alt mode is based on a known make and model, the dimensions and shape of the car's body should be mostly accurate to the real world (scaled down).

Jazz for example should NOT look like this (just for the sake of toon accuracy): IMG_2266.JPG
I would not be pleased with the super boxy van mode for Ironhide from a few posts up.

"Toon accuracy" for a car's body shape is also a meaningless goal to me because it changes with every scene and episode. The alt mode appearances for Jazz in the toons was probably the worst in this aspect.

Yes, the way a bot looks (face sculpt etc.) is also inconsistent, but that's where TT manages to shine - they can create the most representative face sculpts that evoke that special sense of nostalgia with most fans (e.g. MP-36).

You do of course realize that spending £750 on a toy borders on very macro economics

I'm still laughing at the crazy pompous dude who was seriously complaining about the childishness of some when posing action figures, on a message board devoted to a children's toy line. Like, talk about amazing cognitive dissonance.

Cognitive dissonance is that uncomfortable feeling you get when something you're presented with facts that contradict a "fact" you've always believed. The mind realized that both truths cannot be true and does some amazing gymnastics to try to accommodate both realities rather than accept the truth.

An example would be the coining of the term Mandela affect rather than people being able to accept they were wrong.

Coming to light more and more these days as people are less and less willing to admit they're wrong about things, even when you put proof in front of them.

I think she was referring to the FT Rouge thread, when someone put Arcee in a stripper like pose or something of that sort, I think!
