Lol @Jehsee !
You're a sunstreaker finally!
Very nice, well done, I actually prefer what TT have done minus the eyes, if their face had the eyes on your work with an ever so slight reduction on his chin, it would be spot on to the cartoon but yours is very good as well.
IMO MP-39 is not sooooo "cartoon accurate". That GIGANTIC back pack, and that Joker/Crispin glover/Jay Leno face are not like the cartoon character at all.
Megatron, Inferno and Grapple in the other hand are REALLY cartoon accurate and I like them a lot, not the case for Sunstreaker.
Of course there are the group of fans who always support TT no matter what, if TT goes full cartoon they will say "SO OBVIOUS IS GENIUS", If TT returns to Hasui aesthetics they'll write "Smart and unpredictable move, thnx for that surprise TT, take my money now!!!"
I lost a lil faith on debating, cause in most cases ppl are not coherent.
Woah woah careful dude - you're complimenting 3P there!!! If I'm not mistaken that's Sunsurge's face! Looks a bit generic and bland to me and the really long thin nose stands out. Prefer TTs although it could use a slight chin job.
TT's is still the guvna though!
Random question, saw your post on the fixes for Ironhide and ratchet, are they easy to install, thinking of grabbing a couple from TFS, they make those figures look outstanding!?
Maz you're throwing out too much logic and reason here...be careful.
Either TT is producing more or the new toon aesthetic is not as popular, at least over here in the west. There are plenty of sites that have the newer cartoon-centric figures still in stock and easy to get. However, many of the older carbot MP's are soldout, even those that have had reissues. However, the Japanese sites, are pretty much sold out of everything save a couple reissues here and there.
I think the toon aesthetic is popular, but moreso in Japan where the target audience for TT is than here in the west.
I for one like and dislike the toon aesthetic at the same time. I like it because well, it looks like it jumped off the screen. I dislike it because it is not how I imagined the character to look as a kid and sticks out among the rest of the MP lineup pre-ironhide.
You can't base an argument on in stock items without knowing production numbers. Older Mps had smaller runs, even with reissues. Newer ones have larger runs, but still, no one knows the actual numbers to even make a statement or guess that older ones simply sold better just because they sold out faster.
Anyone do any photoshop wizardry to determine once and for all that the car mode is the same size as Lambor? I have to admit, i think it's strange we haven't seen a side by side shot of the cars.
I think we should have a separate thread for opinions on the aesthetic shift of the MP line, and everyone's ideal aesthetic. (I suppose that means I can do it myself! I really need to post more.)
To summarize here, while the early Hasui aesthetic was closer to my personal ideal visualization of these characters, I get more than enough joy at the engineering that has gone into making the recent MP so toon-accurate, and with the added expressiveness of these current designs that I am still very much on board with the line.
The problem with the toon heavy aesthetic is that they aren't actually fully embracing it. The alt modes aren't toon centric at all.
It's dumb. Real car models that don't have real car details. It shouldn't really satisfy either faction. If you're going to go full toon, do it. Make the bots AND the alt modes highly toon centric.
Instead we get real car bodies that don't fully resemble real cars because of a half assed attempt to please both sides.
It would be better to make the alt modes toy/real car accurate and leave the toon centric detailing to the bot modes.
Old thread. Interesting results.
Has cartoon accuracy in the Masterpiece line gone too far?
It's not perfect - but then what online poll is?
Well according to the poll only a quarter of the fans really appreciate the new direction. That ain't good.
As I said, it's not a perfect poll but it puts pay to the idea that all but a vocal minority don't like the new direction as much as the old (FWIW that doesn't mean everyone HATES the new direction).
Maybe streaker is bigger or might not be important to them.
Its also weird we don't have shots of him going in primes trailer
Which poll; the polls on these boards which honestly count for nothing or polls based on the japanese market , the only real market that counts.
We didn't get Prime's trailer shots for Tracks either. Think they're done with that - by now Prime's trailer is full!
Might've been because they wanted to show the flight stand off. We did see it on iron hides box
