It seems there's a new smoke effect included.

Looks like he has bad gas with that effect. Cool they are offering it but wish it was a bit more or something to really create the effect.

Otherwise, something looks off about the head. From a distance, it looks like some movie character (white mask?), I can't remember the name. Up close seems okay. Still going to buy it because I'm for toon and I think he'll look out of place with the other two I've either replaced or will be upon release.

 

They've made some minor changes before between stock photos, prototypes at toy shows, and production. Ultra Magnus' inner boots changing from red to blue, MP-21 Bumblebee's horns going from from sharp to dull, and Sunstreaker's spoiler changing from yellow to chrome are a few examples that come to mind. Hell, MP-03 Starscream was redesigned between his prototype reveal and production!

Yeah, The Gambler wasn't Toei's best effort. Child's Play was better drawn, though riddled with compositing errors. 100% with you on an MP Perceptor!

I gotta take a better look at the insignia, but I've learned to let go and not let the insignia inconsistencies bother me. Red Alert+ might have my favorite Autobot insignia.

 

Gimme Devcon before the others!

One thing I really liked about The Gambler was how it showed Megatron’s power and influence. Tyrant’s got business all over the universe, and people everywhere are genuinely afraid of him and his Decepticons. Didn’t realise there’d be such a galaxy-wide feel before S3.

I guess since Ratchet’s red crosses needed to be a sticker, and the insignia for MP-29, I’ve become ok with stickers on MPs. Changed the insignia on Ratchet, Tracks, Sideswipe, Prowl and Ironhide so that they all match, and I’ll probably do the same with Smokescreen!

 

That face gives me nightmares...

 

Honestly I can love wo the blue windows coming out with the recent plus models.  However, in the case of Wheeljack and now Smoke, they seem blend in pretty well with the look of the figure/vehicle.  Especially in Smokes case; the colors blend well.  Not so much with Bluestreak, though.

It looks as if his face is going to be interchangeable too.

Should Tomy make MP ++ Prowl with his replacement faces?

 

Takara really does surprise me sometimes. Like analyzing a good book or a song....

I was studying the pics released today and I finally get it.. Anyone else remember Sideswipe +’s massive autobot symbol on his chest? Was that simply because cartoon Sideswipe had a dumb large symbol on his chest? Quite the opposite. It was an aesthetic choice to create the illusion that his entire chest was smaller. Because it’s obvious that the chest is way too boxy for the show character. The larger symbol gives the impression that the chest is smaller than it actually is.

The smaller guns on Smokescreen “‘s shoulders make him look fatter!!!! It’s genius! Placing him next to Prowl and Bluestreak is going to be really cool once all the Plus figures are released. Bravo TT. You have impressed me once again.

 

Yeah, I think showing how far Megatron's control reached was just one of the things that made s2 special and not just a retread of s1, even for all its variation in quality and tone. Sea Change and The God Gambit were a few others that played on that theme. Love that Slizardo popped back up in s3 for a bit of continuity, too.

When you do your insignia do you put a clear coat over them? How do they do over uneven surfaces, like the area it'd need to be applied to the Datsuns?

 

The longer face is growing on me more and more but Smokescreen was always my favorite Datsun.

 

Wish he already came with new faces on the + release. You'd think the most popular of the three Datsuns would have those new features!

 

Did they change his face? Damn. That's so awesome!

They're slowly chipping away at all my old + repaints I've been rocking for years. Last one is Soundwave.....its time Takara.
