Well, they did pass on Magnus... 'Course there's reasons for that as well, but the bottom line is that they said no to a Hasbro version...  

 

And there's no mainline figures in Japan, so I imagine the fans can spend more on one figure.

Maybe BotConners from last year can comment on how what little can be seen looks against the 'NeoG1/Classic' Screamer images that were shown there?

My main beef with MP Prime has always been truck mode. Everything was sacrificed to make MP Prime's robot mode the most Gundam-esque, beefiest mech they could. Honestly the G1 toy has a much more accurate/realistic truck mode. (Vehicle mode has always been the most important thing to me, and I dislike most "fake" vehicles--HotRod is a rare exception)

BUT---Starscream I have high hopes for, because there's F-15's in Japan, and the JASDF has always seemed to be very cooperative to most any Japanese company that wants to research/reference their F-15's. So I wouldn't be surprised if right now there's some Takara engineers on base measuring and photographing an F-15J to make Starscream molds. (or more likely, they already were there) Though I do wonder how the plane's belly will look, it'd take some AMAZING engineering to make an accurate F-15 belly transform into a seeker's chest and legs.

I'll be waiting for the Thundercracker repaint of course. (It'd cost too much for all of them, my #2 would be Skywarp)

The only real concern I'd have about making Dirge etc would be the conehead, since an "accurate" Starscream should have the nosecone completely fold into his spine, not point out backwards from his skull.

I will be ordering the JP version, as the US version will inevitably have either the nosecone, missiles, or fin tips shortened/rubberized etc.

Well I hope the continuation of the Masterpiece line doesn't mean the end of the Hybrid Style guys, I'm really digging the little guys.

Sounds like a hell of a cool idea, but...

the real question is - Will MP Starscream have a black helmet and light grey face like every other Takara figure of G1 Starscream, or will he have a more cartoon-accurate dark gray helmet with a medium-gray face (as seen on the Hasbro HOC PVC) ?

Not like it's a deal-breaker or anything.  

 

This apparently being from the packaging of THS-02, and THS-02 being released this month - the toys released in March should be the last ones coming out under the "Takara" name. All toys after that should be "Takara Tomy".

Here's a thought: Hasbro said they wanted to expand alternators. What if this MP figure is really just a bigger alternator/binaltech figure, but since it might look EXACTLY like g1 starscream, they decided to call it a MP instead.
