So i got accepted ibto the disney college program for disneyworld woohoo! Anybody have any advice on living in florida? I will be making my move from california if that helps.
You sure moving to Florida's a good idea? Cause' lots of weird things goes on there... We have a 6 page news thread to prove it too.
I hope you will be able to put up with the humidity. You will notice the climate will be different than California.
not a bad idea you also may want to start buying more TFs online cause chances are you'll have to wait a while to get new stuff that's just hitting retail despite all the weird shit that goes on in florida, we do have a lot of theme parks so you may wanna get an annual pass or two depending on how long you're staying. otherwise, enjoy your stay
I've been here almost 9 years. So... 1. Enjoy Disney. There's a lot more to see and do than what's on the surface. Being able to explore every park freely as a cast member is probably the best reason to get the job, unless somehow you're being paid more than $10/ hr. For extra fun, get in part time at Sea World or Universal, as they have reciprocity for their employee's tickets as well. Then you can go to all the Orlando-area parks. 2. Watch out for idiot drivers. Between the tourists, elderly people, and regular idiots, it can be a challenge. 3. It's very hot and very humid in the summer. Make sure your car's A/C is up to snuff, and try to get a job indoors. 4. Come join us on the 'Florida Sightings Board.' We have a great group of guys willing to help each other out and find some great toys. 5. The best toy/ comic store near Orlando is 'Acme Superstore.'
Wait, Disney college program? Is that like a scholarship at a college local to Disney, or did Disney start offering bachelors programs in imagineering?
Totally agree, when I was stationed in FL I took full advantage of seeing the parks and the beach. Just drink plenty of water because it really does get hot and humid. I miss FL, I guess because its almost summer all year round, it really spoils you. Keep us updated.
Im goin to enjoy it as much as i can. Ive been to the park twice, once when i was a wee little one and again just this year and it was awesome! And good news i wont have a car. Im goin all publoc transit.cause disney has their own bus system for employees. Also.i will head over there and introduce myself right after this Disney college program is an internship program with disney. You work for them for 6 months and in return you get to.take business classes through their teachers. Its really fun. I actually already did the one here in california and stayed om with disney afterwards to live in socal and go to school. But now ill be doin on the other side of thw country! Oh geeze ive got a job outside as a custodian. So yea ill be bringing a water everyday haha. Thanks for all the great advice guys
Disney has their own teachers? Do they have their own educational institution that these teachers teach at? Is it accredited? Do you get a diploma out of it? Can you use that diploma like one from any other college, or is it more of an internal training program to develop skills for use within the Disney company?
been here all 15 years of my life and i agree with this entirely. also, if you live around the tampa or st pete areas, i suggest checking out the Emerald City comic store on Seminole blvd. they got a little showcase of TFs (it's starting to be replaced with Starwars busts though ) they also have a G1 Megatron bust and a UM bust. they also have another room with sealed TFs
Use this for reference: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/general-discussion/634015-ongoing-stupid-news-florida-thread.html lol. I've lived in Florida for 17 years and my advice would be- Don't look at anyone in a weird way. They might eat your face
I lived in Florida for 16 years, graduating high school and attended college there. While admittedly there are many idiots there, I found it no more so than anywhere else I've been. If you live in California, you most certainly can deal with the FL roads when you do take to them. Weather there can be a bit sweltering, and during the rainy seasons, expect an afternoon rain shower around 4pm.
ya know I wonder if you know any of my former students there. Being a theater and music teacher in LA I have a lot of students that have gone of to work for Dineyland as entertainers and also done the disney college program. I have one former student who entertains in all the different aprks and I believe is in Tokyo right now. I also have another one who travels for the Disney in Concert live soncert show. He gets to fly first class and everything. I don't believe he is currently entertaining in the park righ now (espeically since they shut down his main show Diney dance club thingy whatever that was by Monsters Inc) It would be finny and a "small world" (I coulnd't resist) if you knew some of them.
