To answer the question of the thread: I believe that theatres were struggling hard in the last couple of years and the pandemic had delivered a killing blow to the weakened theatres and a massive blow to the relatively successful ones.
Well the logic would be sound for this very specific point in time. If they can make money and get a return of investment in the Chinese market, they'll go get it. And when markets in Europe become viable, they'll go chasing that dollar too.
Hate to resurrect but this showed up in my Facebook feed and the thread was the first thing that came to mind Regal Cinemas Owner Cineworld Reportedly Filing for Bankruptcy
And here we have another thread I made awhile back and completely forgot about. Sorry to hear about Regal though
I loved em as a kid, kinda hate em now. I guess they’ll probably die off. It was awesome while it lasted
Well, can't say I'm surprised. There seems to be less and less traffic at the movies theaters anymore unless it's a big budget film. I've never actually understood why it was an issue as long as you're contributing to the actual thread itself. I mean, I totally get it if you're just spamming or reporting old info like it's new without checking things, but when you're adding legit new information it really shouldn't be a big deal.
You know, I think being away from movie theaters for a year and a half during the pandemic made me appreciate them more. I've been to the theater quite a few times this year, and I forgot how much I enjoyed the experience of going to see movies with friends. I honestly haven't even seen anything I particularly love since Spider-Man, but there is something fun about the whole experience.
Movie theaters aren't going anywhere anytime soon. It is nice to see less and less people in the theater whenever I go see a movie. For me there's nothing like seeing a movie in Imax and enjoying real movie theater popcorn as opposed to that store bought shit that claims to be "movie theater butter".
...Gotta go you gotta go ... Somewhere out their "Are Fields Endless Fields where Theaters are no longer sustained but forclosed" . The future is home cinema. I mean the last at home feeling I had while at a movie theater was watching The Horse Whisperer at Movie Pictures sitting back in a huge chair with a mug of beer. Their aren't many places left like that I can name off the top of my mind anymore.
There’s just nothing playing that I’m interested in. The last thing I saw was M3gan. I was gonna see plane... but just wasn’t in the mood. Put something good on screen and I’ll go watch.
That’s partially due January/ early February slump why nothing good or interesting is out. I think the big chain 50 seat experience is dying. I go to a local chain that has small batches of seats but they are bigger and higher quality. They have good food and drinks yet cost as much as an AMC or Cinemark experience despite being more premium in quality.
