The New He-Man stuff was my most anticipated new toys of the year. Now that I’ve seen it....The reveal was underwhelming. So...meh.
Be my best too. People are too sensitive these days [and a touch too ignorant too] to understand symbols are adopted by more than just the most negative example one can come across and can have different meanings accordingly. Can't hate Mattel for preemptively countering the idiot masses. Maybe she is. Maybe the lost civilization of the MotU canon is the world of the Avatar and HeMan is just the newest adaptation of said Avatar. Or, you know, could be just design appropriation, intentional or accidental.
That's what was bugging me about that reveal of He-Man on Battle cat, the visual style is way too similar to Fortnite. :/
It is what the kids are into these days. But, from my relatively marginal experience on the matter, Fortnite seems to cover a broad spectrum of design in regard to character appearance. Duke and Firefly from GI Joe, the Stig, football players, guys in suits, a guy in a dragon suit, Boba Fett, baby's first steps into the Furry culture: So to say Evil-Lyn's new look is any more of less that than everything else can be is probably, [and this is where I shrug my shoulders]. I will say this, her new design is certainly easier to consistently draw for animation purposes. Less detail to track over the movement. Could be a factor. Still, consider an alternative:
Wow. I just saw the photo of the Masterverse figures and.. wow. They look like utter garbage. I'm so glad I got involved in Origins and I really hope they keep that line going, because I will be avoiding Masterverse like the plague. BBTS seems to be refreshing pre-orders for certain things, which is encouraging. I believe Entertainment Earth still has some of the figures and cases up for pre-order too. I'm hopeful that we'll see re-releases across all waves, as time goes on.
I’ve been waiting for the battle armor figures in order to ship - still have about 2 weeks left, so hoping they sneak in, but probably not:/
Quick question...so these Mastervese toys are a different line or are they related to any of the 2 new shows??
The Masterverse line is supposed to be designed directly after the "adult" animated series coming to Netflix. I don't know what they're calling the line that is going to be based on the childrens' show.
Masterverse is starting with designs from the new Kevin Smith MOTU cartoon on Netflix but will be incorporating other eras of MOTU.
Well, I showed the picture to my kids: 1. Skeletor looks ok. 2. He-man needs more muscles. 3. Battle Cat looks cute! 4. Evil Lyn...wait, that’s her? My younger kids thought she was an elf! LOL! The waists should be thinner and the upper body more muscular. The lower body looks bigger than the upper...maybe its the angle? But things don’t look promising. Yeah, I believe some fans (in my country) were actually hoping this could be the alternative to Classics. Maybe even something like Marvel Legends...even releasing updated versions of the original He-man.
Yeah, I thought Evil Lynn was a male elf until I saw the head with the helmet. He-man and Skelator looks weird with wide stomach area and smaller upper body. Probably just takes some getting used to.
While I'm not taken with the Evil-Lyn redesign, does anyone else think this is just a short costume change for the plot, like her going through a snow covered mountain for a segment, then she has the traditional outfit for the rest of the series?
If the other figures didn't look so half ass, I might be inclined to lean that direction. As it is, they just look like unimpressive, slapdash concepts developed to get figures out in line with the release of the Netflix series. I'd be pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong and, if what's been said about characters changing in some aspects throughout the life of the show, a couple of variants per character might also be nice. It might even give them a chance to redesign He-Man, so he doesn't look so much like his transformation stopped at the shoulders.
