Sorry if this thread has already been made - but has anyone brought a figure and regretted buying it immediately or after some time ? Interested to hear what figures people say
Pff.. Anyway, I do have some: Foc Bruticus The entire Beast Machines run Prime first edition figures after having bought powerizers Universe Galvatron
Always Armada SuperPants Optimus Prime ~ at 40% off he was still a rip-off and Superlink Grand Convoy: paid way to much because i thought: he's got better paint and he can't be as bad in person as he looks in pix. He was worse. Fatimus = worst mainline Leader Prime ever. (i bought a lot of total duds during Armada and Energon because there was just nothing else out there for a couple years!!!) Fortunately Galaxy Convoy came along and completely redeemed the Unicorn Trilogy Optimi. Still one of my all-time favorites. Dual underslung rifles FTW.
Well... Rational me would say the first toy I bought -RTS Jazz- when decided to collecting again just for fun could be a regret considering it led into immeasurable madness. But who cares about that right ? So, nope, nothing.
The Prime toyline. I held out for a long time and swore I wasn't going to buy it. Jumped on the boat after the 1st Editions were (semi) cancelled. I like em, just not really needed, and have never been on display for me. Add to that, that I missed out/skipped some of the Takara versions and Botcon mold uses, and the completionist in me hurts.
Just a few. I am usually pretty particular, but sometimes fall for the plastic crack hook-up. NuRiD Starscream- complete waste of money. I usually hate the whole dime-store KO quality comments, but yeah, that's exactly how I feel about that figure. NuRiD Grimlock- just disappointing. It was my "Let's give NuRiD a try" figure. Not a good start. TLK voyager Optimus- just picked this up today and am having some buyer's remorse, mainly because of tabbing issues and articulation. That may pass, but I doubt it.
TR Galvatron. The alt-modes don't bother me. The head Titanmaster gimmick and the huge cannon ruin the figure. He's a placeholder.
MP-01. I bought him right when I got into collecting and he was a huge disappointment. Didn't help that not long after I got him, I got Classics Voyager Prime and he was amazing. This is especially the case since when I got Prime I was... Well, it was a big purchase at probably the least financially secure time of my life. Also, I turned down a Masterpiece Voltron for Prime.
The first movie leader Megatron. What a big, ugly mess. I was so excited when I got it, and now it's not even worth the time and effort to sell it. AoE Lockdown. I knew it was no good but I bought it anyway because I'm a sucker for Lamborghini TFs. That figure is so deeply disappointing.
I guess my only significant regrets were buying figures as stand-ins for Classics before they were eventually made anyway. Most notably, the FOC Combaticons - I bought the G2 version, the retail versions of Brawl, Swindle and Onslaught, the Takara version of Blast Off, and the Platinum versions of Swindle, Brawl and Vortex... before selling them all one or two years later when I found out Combiner Wars was on the way. Also the ROTF Scouts and Legends I guess - I had a tonne of spare cash back then and just tried to find a way to spend it instantly, and years later I've had to try and find a way to practically give most of them away.
The Games of Deception box set. I bought it for about $800 my freshman year of college, opened up and put all my seekers together...then realized I hate the classics seeker mold and that I had way better uses of $800, so I sold it and ended up using that money on books and what not.
Universe Galvatron. I wasn't even buying him to add to my collection. I was only buying it to scavenge solely for parts... and it still managed to disappoint. Higher parts count doesn't always equal better toy
