Much of the G2 repaints from G1 were pretty terrible. I kind of liked Universe Silverbolt. The beast mode looked not so great in purple, but I found robot mode pretty striking. Universe had more than it's fair share of crapful repaints though ... Blackarachnia ... Crystal Widow (oh look, it's U. Blackarachnia with red orange instead of yellow orange!) ... Tankor ... Nemesis Strika ... Soundwave
Universe Silverbolt... what's up with the purple? RiD Combaticons RiD Prime (yellow?! Oooookkkkaaaayyyy) most of the G2 lineup including the gestalts (except for the Constructicons, funny that we have yellow construction vehicles) most of the Armada repaints Sunstorm Universe Ramjet I thought Crystal Widow's colors were alright.
Some of the Cybertron repaints bugged me. Green Ransack. Blue Brakedown GTS (should've made him a new character - like the Kup custom someone did). The Armada Blurr repaint was good, but the modification to the weapons was a mistake, IMO. Override GTS was pointless, as was Cybertron Skyshadow and Brushguard.
I dont know, even if it was just Brakedown in new colors, Kup never gets homages, I was glad he got that one. Brushguard... yeah, he started out with a bad mold, any poor repaint is no help there, colors weren't bad, just that mold made it look horrible. The rest... oh yeah, agreeing there.
I've always thought that Brakedown GTS would have looked a lot better if he'd had the colors on his head reversed...the dark blue face and silver helmet really don't work together. How 'bout some of Energon's repaints? I never understood the logic behind Command Ravage, Offshoot, and Energon Strongarm. For an honorable mention...Armada Predacon. light green, dark green, and brown. Again, don't see the reasoning, there.
G2 - the entire line - especially the Skittle colored Dinobots Anything "Nemesis" - specifically of the Prime variety SDCC Titanium Menasor Classics Devastator BotCon 2007 Springer, Huffer, Dreadwind, Bugbit & Alpha Trion Any white repaint of Prime passed off as Ultra Magnus Movie Deluxe Cliffjumper Movie G1 Scheme Voyager Ratchet, Starscream & Thundercracker G1 Twincast And I'm pretty sure the entire set of BotCon figures this year will make it into this list once I see them.
No. It wasn't the laziest repaint ever. Sam's Club RID Ultra Magnus was. It's almost exactly the same. All they did was change the regular blue parts to a really dark blue. Normal RiD Magnus. Sam's Club Magnus.
Well, while I did spout off laziest repaint ever a bit soon, I did speak of Magnus as well... though I will gladly give the title to him.
I always liked the funny colors of the Universe Beasts. Zombie colors! Rotting trans-organic flesh and all. Anyway, I too wish Wheelie hadn't been repainted. Maybe G2 didn't have the best colors either, but IMHO that was the LEAST of G2's problems. Worst repaint? Anytime Optimus Prime is painted white and called "Ultra Magnus". It's been way overused. "Nemesis" is starting to get old too.
Between Nemesis and all these constant variations on voyager-class movie Prime (Normal, Robo-Vision, Battle Damage, First Strike), I'll take the black and blue any day. And on a side not, I like the FAB Prime repaint! He's like Energon Rodimus's kid-friendly brother.
Slight technicality, but two of the plastic colors actually changed, not just the blue. Not as impressive as it could have been, still. I'll have to go in the display room when I get home and double check what the other change was.
Well, for starters... Ultra Magnus WAS/IS a white Optimus Prime. Sure the character in the movie looked unique, but Lincoln Logs were more articulated and better designed than that trailer/battle armor. I love repaints as new characters, so UM and NP stay in my book, and in my heart. That having been said, I'm thinking the worst repaint I've ever seen has to be a tie between Universe Prowl and Universe Sideburn. First off, we'll slap tribal artwork on a police vehicle. Ooooooooooooooooooh, better slow down, it's the Goth Police, making sure we all have our Hot Topic membership cards!!!! And that crappy grid design on Sideburn almost gives the impression of fishnet stockings, so from this point on it'll be Trannie Sideburn. And don't get me started on the SHOOTZ HEEERZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!! gigantic Autobot symbol. Universe Sunstorm is a close second. How to make an ugly mold uglier? Try capitalizing on an obscure Seeker's popularity.... Bleh. That having been said, we need a counter, who's the best repaint you've ever seen? The desert and urban (not snow, snow ain't grey people!) repaints of Bruticus/Ruination. A little uniformity on combiners goes a LONG way. And I kinda like the RID Landfill repaints. Yellow Landfill vs Green Devastator. Warms my greasy little heart for some odd reason....
