I was thinking about 2.0 with his Romance with cosmos. 1.0 was a horrifying act. However it seems most people weren't reading til all are one, and there's not really a reason to be enraged when that's spilled war crimes and we are so far divorced from 1.0 now. In the worst character in idw thread, not a single person mentioned him that I read, and I'm sure I've read most of it.

Controversial doesn’t just mean a character you dislike.

G1’s Carbombya speaks for itself, and I know there’s a Hiroshima Prime which is… hoo boy.

Even characters like IDW Star Saber aren’t really controversial as much as they are divisive. Divisive is different from controversial anyway. Of course people hated him, but he wasn’t someone that attracted a colossal amount of backlash on and behind the scenes like the Twins or Fakkadi.

There's nothing controversial about Hiroshima Prime. It was made as a tourism advert by Takara and (presumably) municipal/prefectural governments (and whatever store was hosting the kiosks that showcased these creations.) as part of a set of nearly 20 "Town Commander" bots to serve as mascots for various regions in Japan.

From everything I can tell it has no real bio or fiction to speak of, makes zero reference to world war II or the atomic bomb, and is just a crazy-colored Trailbreaker knockoff with an oyster shell shield because Hiroshima is known for its plentiful oyster fishing and oyster cuisine. There's nothing there to be controversial except for the fact that some people only know of the city because of the bomb. It would be like suggesting any transformer with New York flavor is controversial because of 9/11. It certainly doesn't belong in the same league as Carbombya, which very transparently wears its "let's all make fun of Libya and Gadaffi" pastiche nature on its sleeve.

A fine and dare I say it fun idea. Power to them. Just, its the sort of thing that once it goes across Japanese borders will warrant some additional context because unless you're in the seafood/restaurant business, first thoughts of Hiroshima are not likely to be if they make a bitching Japanese twist on Oysters Kilpatrick.

Skids and Mudflap probably given their exclusion from the immediate following film and how we've now had a 100 Studio Series figures, the majority of which are Bay characters, and they remain conspicuously absent.

Rodimus Prime is anarchy being spiritual. Thus, his controversy. The logic, to the controversy is the duplicity of the G1 cartoon; the G1 series starts off, as a mode of anarchy being spiritual, in which the actual manifestation is happy capitalism being a turncoat. After the movie, and Rodimus's ascent, his actions like waiting around in Daniel's bedroom, and driving crazy through roads and roads as a shunning of the matrix of leadership, are essentially a duplicity to the cartoon's left-wing ethos, of the craziness of imagination being bureaucratic (anarchy being spiritual).

I mean, did people think that Hiroshima refers to the bomb itself? Because otherwise the first thing that would pop into anyone's mind is the location. Which, of course, is what Hiroshima Prime is representing.

Or do people outside of Japan just think Hiroshima was literally blown off the map in WWII?

Its not called 'Little Boy Prime'. And thank all of the Gods no one has ever had an idea that tasteless

The location where an atomic bomb was dropped. As sad as it is, I feel pretty confident if you asked most people about the city, that factoid is the first that will pop into their minds.

But hey, Hiroshima Prime has served his purpose. Until this discussion about the toy I had no idea Hiroshima was famous for oysters. Now I do, and now I know more about the city than I did two days ago.

two that I noticed are talked about relatively frequently but arent acknowledged as much as others here is definitely Elita-One and Arcee. Both are pretty devisive as they're often used just to be "the girl character" and more often than not end up just being a love interest. Elita especially is usually just "Prime's old flame" and not much else.

Another example is fan created characters that become official. Windblade, the Torchbearers, characters like that that appeared, had little to no characterization, then disappeared as fast as they appeared. Victorion isn't even acknowledged anymore past CW. Windblade is just there

if your gonna rename him, use Smelt. it goes with his fire-breathing attack and still involves molten metal. but in the end, i'm still gonna call him slag.

I see your point, And I will always respect it, but as a person who's first in continuity appearance of star saber was MTMTE, I can't see him as anything else aside from that religious psychopath. the most heroic I can ever imagine him is as a cold and arrogant jackass. Don't blame me, blame JR.
