With 2019 winding down to a close and 2020 around the corner, what are some of your most anticipated movies of next year? For me, there’s really not a lot that I’m interested in. The majority of the blockbusters this year don’t really excite me. Some of the ones I’m more excited for are the ones I know very little about at the moment. 1. Wonder Woman 1984- I loved the first one. The trailer for this one looks good too. 2. Fast and Furious 9- I’ve seen every one of these movies in theaters since I was 5 years old and enjoyed all of them. That’s not about to change. 3. Last Night in Soho- This one is Edgar Wright’s next movie. That alone is reason enough to be excited. Plus, he said it’s more in the vein of Don’t Look Now than something like Shaun of the Dead, so it will be interesting to see him do a real thriller. 4. Free Guy- It just looks like a fun movie and Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi should generate a lot of laughs. 5. Top Gun: Maverick- There’s no way I’m not seeing all of the practical flying stunts that Tom Cruise is going to do in IMAX. 6. Bad Boys for Life- It just looks like a simple, fun, unpretentious time at the theatre. Even if critics pan it, I have a hard time imagining myself not enjoying this one like I do the first two. 7. Raya and the Last Dragon- This is Disney Animation’s next movie. It honestly sounds like a really good fantasy movie in the vein of DreamWorks How To Train Your Dragon movies. 8. Godzilla vs King Kong- I’m just in it for the spectacle. 9. Halloween Kills- I’m skeptical about where the story could go, but I liked the last one enough to give the filmmakers the benefit of doubt. 10. The King’s Man- I didn’t really ask for a Kingsman prequel, but the trailers looked good, and I generally like Matthew Vaughn’s movies. Black Widow misses out on this list. It looks good, but I’m having a hard time getting excited for most Marvel properties post-Endgame. If this was released last year, I’d probably feel different.
Films I will see: New Mutants (Assuming it gets a theater release.) Peter Rabbit 2 Scoob! Wonder Woman 1984 Conjuring 3 Raya And The Last Dragon The King's Man And, that's really it. Not really excited about too many next year.
Wonder Woman 1984: my most anticipated by a massive margin. No Time to Die: I love my Bond movies, and this looks pretty good. Black Widow: Its MCU, I'm there Top Gun Maverick: I love fighter planes, and I will happily ignore the presence of the Space Pope to watch hi definition footage of actual aircraft flying around in a cinematic fashion. The King's Man: Kingsman origin story based on World War I. Yes please.
Dolittle: I love the original film (not the Eddie Murphy one the one before that with Rex Harrison) and I'm a huge fan of RDJ. Bad Boys for Life: Enjoyed the first two so looking forward to this one. Mulan: I was skeptical of this being done in live action, but it looks like a Hong Kong action film so I'm there. Black Widow: Despite my thinking this should have come sooner I'm still looking forward to this. Scoob!: Love the gang and a shared Hannah-Barbera universe makes sense seeing as the cartoons were already connected. Wonder Woman 1984: Loved the first film so I'm hoping this one is just as good. Top Gun Maverick: I didn't think anything could make me sit through a Tom Cruise film ever again but here we are. Ghostbusters Afterlife: Really looking forward to getting a proper third film that hopefully passes the torch. Jungle Cruise: What can I say? I have a man crush on Dwayne Johnson. Snake-Eyes: Hoping this goes the way of Bumblebee and we get a great reboot to the franchise that has better financial success. GI Joe could use a win. Godzilla vs Kong: KotM was fantastic and the leaks have me excited for this one just as much. Raya and the Last Dragon: Disney animation plus dragons? Yes please. Dune: Loved the books, enjoyed the original film, looking forward to this new film.
Dolittle Bad Boys For Life Sonic the Hedgehog Scoob! Fast & Furious 9 Wonder Woman 1984 Candyman Ghostbusters: Afterlife Bill & Ted Face the Music Monster Hunter Godzilla vs. Kong Coming 2 America Uncharted This will be costly for me because the movie theater nearest to me was shutdown permanently for pest infestation. Mice, roaches, lice. I live in the southwest of OKC so I have to go to the Northwest of OKC. Ticket price are higher but the snacks and drinks are better and the seats are roomier and softer. My butt will thank me.
None stand out to me so far. It's not the lack of Star Wars/Avengers either, as I haven't seen Infinity War or Endgame either, and I didn't care too much for RoS. I just legitimately am not interested in much of anything film-wise in the near future.
I don’t have much, Black Widow & Godzilla vs Kong are the only ones I’m really looking forward to. And to a lesser extent, The Eternals. In many ways, this year is a breather, for 2021 is going to be BUSY. Leaks you say, do tell please.
It’s crazy coming off of such a freaking huge year for movies. Endgame, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, TROS. Regardless of quality these were truly huge movies and it’s crazy to go back to, well, normal scale movies next year. So I feel like next year will be movies trying to find their way in the wake of such big endings like TROS and Endgame. I definitely don’t have a lot I'm super hype for next year if at all. Wonder Woman is definitely the biggest tentpole movie I’m looking forward to most. Kong Vs Godzilla should be fun too.
In no order... Tenet Christopher Nolan's next movie will always be something to look forward to. No Time to Die The end of an era for the Daniel Craig Bond movies. Will see how this movie fares out. Snake Eyes I actually have some sort of interest in the film since I'm looking forward to martial arts and the reset it could bring for G.I. Joe Wonder Woman 1984 If it continues the story well; then I'm in. A Quiet Place Part 2 Not that the movie needed a sequel but it's happening so might as well see if they can make a worthy story continuation here. Top Gun: Maverick A long awaited sequel that seems incorporate Tom Cruise's passion of realism which is usually exciting to see on cinema. Dune Personally have not finished the David Lynch version yet but I'll still look forward to Dennis Villeneuve's take. Sonic the Hedgehog So they fixed his design and now I'm hoping to get a reasonable amount of fun from the movie. Free Guy Movie looks to be another confident stride in Ryan Reynold's filmography; let's hope it works. Venom 2 Andy Serkis is involved this time so I'm curious how he's going to approach some things here; namely the motion capture stuff. And notice how I don't have a MCU film here because I'm not sure after Endgame.
1)Halloween Kills The rest in no order... Ghostbusters Afterlife Candyman Conjuring 3 Black Widow The Eternals Birds of Prey Wonder Woman 84 No Time to Die The Kings Man Scoob Venom 2 Snake Eyes Godzilla vs Kong Mulan Not Excited but will probably see Morbius The New Mutants Bobs Burger the Movie
Sadly I can't say I'm hugely hyped for anything in 2020. I'm sure there will be some good movies, but as of now nothing makes me want to rush out on opening night. I'm looking forward to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which is weird because I don't consider myself a massive Ghostbusters fan. It just looks like a fun movie (and refreshingly small-scale). I'll definitely see Godzilla vs. King Kong in theaters, and I'll probably get more exited when we see a trailer. Onward and Mulan look entertaining. I might see the Marvel movies. Black Widow looks neat, but does't really excite me. I might go see it, or just save it for DVD. It will really just depend on whether anyone else wants to go, if future trailers look good, and what the reviews are like. The same will probably be the case with the other two Marvel movies too. I think I'm starting to get tired of superhero stuff, honestly. I still kind of feel an obligation to Marvel, but am feeling kind of fatigued at the moment, and can't really bring myself to get excited for future movies (unless it's called Guardians of the Galaxy 3). Then again I don't usually get excited for Marvel movies until I see a trailer. They'll probably be great, and I'll probably eat my words. I'm curious about Dune. I have no knowledge of the source material. A while back I met a guy who was crazy about Dune, he talked like it was the greatest thing ever. Although I've also heard it's terribly confusing and not that good. I'm always interested in a space adventure movie, we don't get nearly enough of those. I'm excited to see a trailer.
Black Widow Ghostbusters: Afterlife Godzilla Vs Kong Maybe Free Guy and No Time to Die? Not a whole lot to look forward to, IMO.
Bad Boys 3, Black Widow and Top Gun are the only ones (so far) that have even remotely caught my interest and will get a theater viewing out of me. Random other stuff like Tenet, Free Guy, The Kings Man and Yet More 80's starring Wonder Woman will also likely be watched at some point, but via other means... and only whenever I eventually get to it. Not "anticipating" any of them, though.
Is there a Star Wars movie in 2020? I’d be in if so. I don’t pay attention to what’s coming all year but based on what I know and other lists here: Top Gun Godzilla vs Kong Eternals Bond Wonder Woman Black Widow Snake Eyes Ghostbusters Interested in Dune and maybe any other Marvel movie that is coming.
Halloween Kills is it, I guess. I don't know. I just don't have anything right now that I'm drooling over to see. There's a lot I'll go see, but with the Thanos story done for the MCU, no Spider-Man film next year, James Bond on perpetual suicide watch, the lackluster director for Kong vs Godzilla, and Onward not looking so hot, there's really nothing I am truly anticipating. I'm sure there will be something I come across that will look good, but considering that happened a lot this year and I ended up being disappointed with the film, I'm keeping my expectations low. I saw 54 movies this year and had a hard time coming up with a top 10 best list. Of course, it also meant I had a hard time coming up with a worst list because I had so many to choose from.
