i use a folded hand towel, youve also got to try and figure out which side of the pins has the grips on it. there IS wrong way to push out a pin. practice on something else first.
Did you alter the tops of the arms? I don't see the details as much on the upper arms on your modded figure?
it was different on both of my copies of Slag. have you ever looked at a TF and noticed that sometimes overtop of pins there is a layer of, or small pieces of plastic flak around the pin hole? that plastic means that the pin was inserted from the opposite side and on its way through i scraped the walls and brought some material with it. This is the side you want to hit to remove the pin. if that flak is not there you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right. if you don't get it right and the pin starts to stick out the other side and you notice that the side coming out DOESN'T have the grips on it. STOP, and start pushing the other way. there isn't really a %100 fool proof way to tell aside from the plastic flak, but that doesn't show up all the time.
In addition to this, try holding the part over a steaming kettle for 20-30 seconds, it softens the plastic and really helps with getting pins out without damaging the plastic.
I just ended up carefully using needle nose pliers and slid the head out, it did leave a couple of little "bite" marks on each side of head but the dino head blocking the side of the head you never notice it anyway
For anyone who wants to see Makuta Teridax, Im on Deviantart under the same name with a similar Bill Cypher profile pic.
quick question. for g1 toon accuracy. Would you call Slag's thighs/chest WHITE or SILVER? same can be said for Swoops thighs and other bits on the rest of the dinos. ive decided im going to go a little bit further with the toon accuracy but if i'm gonna pick a color i need to pick one so that it matches across all the dinobots. white feels more accurate, but silver will create the same effect and will be easier to not only paint on, but match with what the toys already kinda have going on. what do you guys think?
I voted for silver, since in some episodes it's white, and other's it's grey. That feels like the intent was silver and the limitations of the color choices left the colorist having to pick one or the other.
I murdered a Slash while experimenting... don't really care though because she was bought for specifically that purpose and i learned what i wanted to know, which is don't try to take pins out of Slash, she WILL break, you know, probably... Also Slash's head in cast in red plastic but holy shit its not worth it to try and strip the paint this time around. However i have two others, one for paint experiments and one for the "final" Slash that will sit with my Dinobots Is this how Shockwave feels? so here is the quickly painted test Slash. blue eyes are a must, i love them on slash lipstick or no lipstick? Every female TF from the G1 toon were all designed to be robot pin up girls more or less, (obviously human female shape vs male generic blocky 80s robots) so if Slash had been there too, she probably would have been as well so my brain thought, "well she would have 100% had lipstick." perhaps keep the lipstick, but another color? no lipstick at all? I'm unsure about the gold because if i do it to one, i have to do it to ALL of the dinos and my problems with that are Snarl and Grimlock, thats ALOT of gold paint between the two of them and this is just supposed to be a quick custom job for each dino, not a full blown repaint. I want to still be able to take them off the shelf and mess with them, i don't want them to be untouchable painted statues and i'm worried that too much paint will cause chips when i transform them and i dont wanna have to constantly retouch them blah blah blah. (though the gold on this particular slash is holding up pretty damn well even without a clear coat so i'm even more unsure...)
i did silver. And the little detailing on swoop i painted gold to match the yellow lining from the cartoon. I'd post a pic but i haven't taken one yet. i went off this though. i think the intent was supposed to be silver while the gray is meant to be like a metallic grey. And using silver is a happy medium between cartoon and the toy since the toy had the chrome.
Yea, silver is what i ultimately ended up doing. (i would remove the poll, but you can't edit them aside from adding more voting options...)
What shade of red did you use on Slag's head? I'm looking to do this same thing, and yours matches really well!
