Yeah that got me wondering too, I also find it troublesome that he seems to be involved in ALOT of bad stuff as of late.

Someone on another site mentioned that they were disappointed in the loss of
Rung because he was a rare fictional example of a mostly-realistic psychiatrist. That's not a field you see represented very accurately in any kind of fiction, but his scenes were more or less legit as far as therapy is concerned.
It was a glimpse into a new and unseen facet of the TF world and culture, it gave us lots of insights on some of the character's mental state, and now we'll never see any of those scenes again. And what do we get in return for losing an interesting and atypical character who opens up a lot of characterization possibilities?
    Overlord
...a generic "durr hurr me sooper evil, me kill people" guy. Not a fair trade at all.

Noooooo! Sure he sucks at hostage negotiations, but, but...but... :(

Do you really think Whirl was serious, though? The "Yes" after
    Rung
gets blasted seemed kind of triumphant...like he was happy that Fort Max was beaten, and he didn't really care about anything else. Not that I expect him to cry and tear out his hair in misery (that's MY job :p ), but you would think he would have had a slightly more negative reaction to his "friend" getting killed. Knowing Whirl, the "I wub my special friend" business was probably just more of his crazy manipulative bullshit. Fort Max was genuinely upset, but I doubt there's any sadness in Whirl's fucked up brain.

Yeah, but that line was a warning, referencing something horrible that happens. Doesn't exactly sound like it'll be good for anyone, in the coffin or out.

Agreed. The thread is for discussion of the issue, so if you haven't read it, it's a no-brainer to stay out. I think it's silly to have to use spoiler tags here, but them's the rules I guess...

Damn. That was an issue, right there.

So do I blame Rodimus for calling the shot or Swerve for taking the shot?

That's a good question. I probably lean more to option 1.

    I blame Rodimus. Swerve warned
    he's bad at shooting
    .
    Rodimus
    risked Rung's life twice
. Now I do hate him. :cry

I think this was the best one yet. It was only one situation the whole thing but they juiced so much out of it. Whirl easily becoming a character I really dig, he is amazingly damaged.

Toys Hasbro toys. Stop with the WFC shit in Generations and get to work on these guys.

Swerve is a bit to blame for it as well. He did obey the command, after all. I don't think he was even looking when he took the shot, either. I'd rather be on rivet duty than accidentally kill the therapist. Rodimus is still stupid though, he had a security camera, he could see what was going on. It was pretty obvious Fort Max was not a threat with the projection up. The dude was cuddling Rung like a teddy bear.

I had a sneaking suspicion that
    Rung was going to die
because that was a lot of attention to be paid to a fanmade character not named Drift. It was like the show E.R.--when something was going to happen to one of the peripheral characters, they either got shoved to the background or were suddenly the focus of attention. Doesn't make it suck less, though.

That's really what I love about this comic, and why it's my favorite comic on the market today. No one in this cast is perfect. No one is a Mary Sue. Everyone of the cast members have their serious flaws that can really bite them in the ass. It makes for some seriously entertaining stories.

Rodimus screwed up and he knows it. He may no longer be Hot Rod, but he's still got a loooong ways to go before he's Rodimus Prime. (If he ever gets there!)

sheesh, it's as if you want them to
kill characters you don't care about.

Yep that's great comic writing right there (eyes roll into back of head)

    greyley, this is for you..
You have no proof it was done for shock value. if anything, it's one of the most real scenes in a comic - sometimes shit you absolutely don't want to happen just DOES...

and "if he cared about his own character, he wouldn't have killed him..."

Right... if he cared about his character, he'd keep him safe, make sure nothing happened to him... that's what makes us fall in love with characters anyway! Nobodies that have nothing happen to them!

i don't mean to yell at you, but dude wtf, what makes sense to you makes no sense to me...

Rung's death was a huge shock for me, one that I'm still trying to shake off. I loved his character, but his death is going to have a bigger impact on the story in the future than if Swerve didn't strike him, IMO. Fort Max is going to go ballistic as soon as Red Alert lets it slip that Overlord is on board, and without Rung to at least attempt to calm him...

Slightly off topic, the art style is amazing, but on page 14, Fortress Maximus's face had me in tears. It kinda threw me off of the whole "Fort Max is mentally unstable" thing. And I can't unsee Ultra Magnus as one of those Gurren Lagann gunmen, the bottom of page 7 shows it best.
