Ha, what a fun-looking compilation from cool artists! Loved the Gurren Lagann, Panty and Stocking plus Kill La Kill homages (Dat Airachnid!), and the Animated stuff are great too.

 

I would love to know why stuff like this gets released to the Japanese market, while the US one gets the shaft almost completely.

 

I concur. Also Japan gets the TF Generations book every year, there's no such equivalent for the English speaking market.

The least Hasbro could do is a translated version of it.

 

Transformers is almost totally a collectors property in Japan. It isn't in the states.

I wish we got books like this too. Or hell even translations like you said, but there is a "reason" for it.

It's cool art and I'm pretty happy to see DJW and Milne art AND official TF art by the people behind Gurren Lagann (I've been wanting that for YEARS), but couldn't they tone down the fanservice a bit? I mean, I can tolerate fanservice even though it's not my thing (I enjoyed Gurren Lagann, which had a SHITLOAD of fanservice), and it's not gods-awful creepy like Kiss Players, but it's still a little too much for a TF book IMO.

Still, I'd LOVE to see a hand-drawn, Western-written, high-quality-Japanese animated series, and we're kinda getting that with Machinima Combiner Wars, but I'd rather see a new series that stands on its own and tries to go for a bigger audience instead of being a G1 'toon targeted at the older fans.

 

Well, in this instance, this isn't an official Transformers book. It's a bunch of artists getting together and doing an fanart book, pretty much.
As much as I would love books like this to make it over our side so we can purchase them too, they tend to be made in very small, limited print runs sometimes; like whenever I do an artbook, it'll probably be a small run of a max 150 books, as it's really pricey to get these things done. BUUUTTTT I'm going by what small info on costs I'm aware of...

 

Arts look amazing! Love the 86 Rodimus, MP-22 UM, and the Animated Gavatron arts.

 

Some really kickass artwork there (especially the Classics Prime one), I need this book in life!

You might want to warn, or do something else, regarding the "doujin" style picture of the "Shattered Glass Girls". The imagery could be said, or debated to be, erotic, due to the semi-naked appearance and the stoking of the phallic/nipple cannons...

I'm surprised that one got in, considering that most of the other pictures are not, and there are western artists' included.

 

I think the shit Michael Bay gets away with is a lot worse than two kinda phallic cannons but TFW don't put a warning on that.

Since it was for sale at Comiket, I don't think it might be "official" enough to be published in the US in the first place. Doujins sold there often are done so without official permission of copyright holders.
