Hey There. Rememered how Much useless were the Dinobots? Well, do you think that they should have done more, and talked, or something else? Also Hot Rod, the only thing he did, was use that time stopping gun.
First of all, their designs are good, they conserve some aspects from g1 designs, but the main problem (for me) is that They DON'T TALK. It's not that much of a problem, but i would like they would extend the scene where optimus grabs the sword and "meets" Grimlock, and, well, Interaction Between them, and the other autobots, other than Bumblebee riding Strife, and Optimus But with Grimlock. Oh, and try to add snarl and Sludge. Maybe it was time matter, THEY are part of the dinobots, not that i dislike Scorn, but i really wish they two were there. And keep them all in TLK, instead of just appear in the junkjard scenes. Oh, and, on how to improve Hot Rod. Well, the frech accent is ok, but, for most of the time does NOTHING. The only thing i ask for him is more screen time, and, with his character, bring back the concept of the Matrix Of Leadership. NOT to follow 1986 Optimus Dying. Just to bring back the concept, and how Optimus not be nemesis, and he and Hot Rod be Friends, and also, to Optimus to pass the Matrix to Hot Rod, Because of he realized maybe he didn't took the best decisions, and the Matrix Chose him to be a new Leader. Hope You agree on something.
I disagree about the Dinobots being useless, so I wouldn't change anything in either films(AOE or TLK), I thought they served their story roles well as "the calvary". Them not joining in the final fight made sense to their characters as they most likely wouldn't want to return to the Knight Ship, Daytrader found, were they spent who knows how long captured in there in Age of Extinction and they did play a huge role in the first act driving away invaders from invading their territory during the town fight against the Decepticons and TRF in The Last Knight. As for Hot Rod I would have included him in the battle with Nemesis Prime alongside Bumblebee in the fight, serving as a dual reference for both Bumblebee and Hotrod taking on a brainwashed Optimus Prime in the G1 Episodes Attack of the Autobots and Dark Awakening, respectively.
My favorite versions of the Dinobots would be the fall of Cybertron one's so I'd give them personalities similar those versions and I'd honestly give them there own movie. I'd love to see an origin story for them that ties into a main series movie. As for Hot Rod. I can live without him but I think it'd be pretty cool to have him be like best friends with Bumblebee considering there both young hot blooded warriors. I'd say yes to seeing him again
I don't really mind how the Dinobots were used. They served a plot function, and were basically in-line with what the original Dinobots were...big, dumb bruisers. The sad truth is that there's not a lot to do with the Dinobots because they're not terribly interesting or complex characters. You can have them show up now and then and smash stuff, which is exactly what Bay did with them. They got a fair amount of screentime for that. As far as Hot Rod goes, I do think he could have done more. I didn't mind the interpretation of the character (the French accent has grown on me...and I never loved G1 Hot Rod anyway). All of the Autobots in TLK were kind of underused, honestly.
I don't think the Dinobots were useless in AOE considering the big role they play in the end of the fight, but I do wish they would all appear more in TLK. Hot Rod was one of my favourite parts in TLK and he didn't just use his time stopping gun, he was there to bring Vivian along for the adventure and watch over her.
I would not change anything in AOE about the dinobots, except maybe they talk, and make it a bit explicit that Grimlock fights Prime as a show of strength. The dinobots will only follow Prime if he proves himself a worthy leader to follow (you know, playing up the whole 'Honour to the end/knight motiff' thing they had going on). In TLK, I would have the Dinobots be the knights who betrayed Quintessa. Have Sludge, Snarl, Slash guarding Merlin's grave and introduce them there. But since I like Dragonstorm, I'd also throw him in for the sake of it. Hot Rod I liked his personality. Screw how it compares to his G1 form, it's not G1. I would keep him as is. Although maybe make his alt mode a bit more of a hot rod styled car. Although I like this idea. Also, Bee and Rod were brothers in arms, so it would be nice to see them fighting together which wasn't just a flashback.
I am a huge fan of the Dinobots in all incarnations, and I actually agree fully about them. We were never promised a film focused on the Dinobots as characters, nor do I think the average person on the street would like a Dinobot-focused more than a film featuring more "normal" Autobots and Decepticons. They were meant to be the cavalry, and at that they performed their duty. Not to mention, even if we never heard a, "Me, Grimlock," they were actually pretty close in spirit to their earliest appearances in G1; they were, as you put it, big, dumb bruisers who transformed into dinosaurs, just like the G1 Dinobots. And even if many TLK robots are underused, I like that Hot Rod and his gun actually play a role in the story, and I like Omar Sy's voice.
I have to disagree with that. I thought the first IDW run presented a fair amount of interesting ideas for the Dinobots even if it never committed to using them to construct a real start-to-finish journey for the Dinobots. Just take the first part of their story: They were members of the Primal Vanguard that got tired of their superiors and so formed their own taskforce. During a mission that went wrong, they were turned into monsters which led to Grimlock killing Skar - his best friend and the team's medic, something that he never got over. They were then quarantined but feeling betrayed over their treatment and traumatized over what happened to Skar, they broke out and went rogue. They lived on the street and started to participate in underground gladiator matches to survive. A gladiator named Blackwall apparently developed (or attempted to develop) a rivalry with Grimlock. This was where they brushed elbows with the Decepticons. They helped the Autobots from time to time but never joined them until later. Grimlock even had a stint as a Decepticon that ended with his desertion. They struggled to control their monstrous forms and when the war really kicked up, they resorted to stealing things to try to get off Cybertron so they could be sure to never hurt anyone. There was a lot of good stuff. It was just never utilized. Spoiler: Tagged for size
I honestly saw the "dinobots" as not much more than a walking advertisement for the movie. They weren't even referred to as the Dinobots, Grimlock wasn't even named until Marky Mark yelled at him in TLK, and if ten seconds of film was cut from AoE you wouldn't even know they transformed. Yeah, the designs are cool and all, but they just weren't necessary. Hot Rod...meh...I didn't like the movie enough to form much of an opinion on him.
