I use the technic parts as well, they are great
I don't know if Velcro is the answer for me.
I have not needed to cut holes for the magnets. They're currently located under the hood. And under the Engine.
As well as at the back, and in the Parachute.
That all sounds pretty frustrating. You could probably use some good news.
Why so many? Well I couldn't be sure of the size of the neck ball. 5mm seemed most likely and it's what you measured but, as you said, you didn't have callipers so I did one at 4.5mm, one at 5, and one at 5.2mm (technically 4.7, 5.2, and 5.5 because you always need to add about 200 microns of space to 3d printed parts you want fitting together). And then I figured it takes exactly the same amount of time to print six as it does to print three (resin printers print the entire layer at once) so there was no reason not to double them and I figure you'll need a spare of whichever one actually fits. I expect two will be so tight they won't go on at all, two will fit just right, and two will be too loose (though you can stuff the loose ones with a bit of paper towel and they should hold). You can use the non-fitting ones as practice or color tests for painting or whatever.
It's going to be a tight fit going into the chest cavity but I'm pretty sure they'll clear the opening (doesn't quite do it from straight on but they'll be coming around on the neck piece so I'm pretty sure it'll work). If not, let me know and I'll see about adjusting it further. Sorry I couldn't test it but they glued Ectotron's head together and I didn't want to break him.
Holy crap! This is amazing!
And yeah, removing Ecto's head wrecked it up pretty good.
Wow, that came out great.
Getting so close! Great to see some more updates.
EFFFFFFIT! AND EVERY OTHER CURSE WORD!
As I mentioned earlier, I bought a new Monkeemobile specifically for the windshield pieces.
It just arrived and the cross-beam is broken.
It's not the end of the world obviously, there's a lot here that I can use. And strictly speaking I don't even need the Crossbeam. But it's part of the car. and the Glass Piece even has a groove for it to fit in and....
DEEP BREATH HERE
THE WHOLE EFFING REASON I BOUGHT THIS A THIRD FREAKING TIME WAS TO GET A NON DAMAGED WINDSHIELD PIECE!!!!!
Now that that's out of my system, I'm going to go take a walk and listen to the new Dylan Album.
I'm very aware at how petty this complaint is, and how very luckY I am in all things.
ESPECIALLY AS IT PERTAINS TO THIS CUSTOM!
But it's so frustrating.
Sorry, thank you for letting me vent.
EDIT: As a side note all that sprue stuff that says "remove" I'm going to try to keep it, because those will be the pieces that give me leverage to install the hinge stuff.
On a less Tantrum'y note, here's some ideas for the guitar.
The parachute and engine are attached by magnets. So I need to be able to place them somewhere in Bot mode that can have a magnet hidden in it.
I don't intend for the Guitar to transform (mostly because I have never liked this figure for LB and it feels like it's one joint away from being complete. But also there's no reason for the Monkee-Bot to have an evil attack bird.)
I am hoping to be able to mount it to the roof in vehicle mode.
Looks cool, i like the engine at the base better
Engine at the base looks cooler. But when it’s at the top it kinda looks like the tuning keys of the guitar. Version 2 is a more visually balanced design though.
Agreed with both comments. That also looks like it will be easier in terms of magnet placement.
Christmas Came Early!!!
A million thanks to @Snaku !!!
These look great!
It's still a tad big to fit in the body but, I still need to test a couple different ones.
Worst case, it can just be detachable and sit inside the body.
Time for some color tests.
I can take another stab at it. Is it the pom, or the entire head that won't fit? Does it go on all the way or is there a chunk of neck peg showing and keeping the head from going on all the way?
Let me do some more tests on it, and I'll get back to you.
In other news, I'm doing some color tests, I know this is really rough, but I'm debating if I want to do his "hair" BLACK like human hair?
RED which would technically match the idea of a Transformer Helmet.
I guess the funny thing here is that he has a hat so its kinda like two helmets.
The colors will be darker, so the christmas effect won't be so overwhelming, but..
This one’s a lot of fun. Please keep it going. You could use model cement to fix that broken piece on the new windshield frame no problem (if you haven’t already). And that head screams Monkees. It’s great. And pushing your skills to their limits is a good thing. You don’t learn much doing the same thing over and over! Plus, you’re going to need these skills for the inevitable Ron Jeremy Wienermobile...
The head kinda reminds me of Tappet's head
I think you are right. I was trying to avoid the "literal hair" look, but the combo of "double helmets" and "green/red" make the red impractical.
Would it be possible to carve out bits of the hole in the chest where the head folds in, as opposed to making a new head from scratch?
Separate names with a comma.
