I thought I'd put together this WIP on how I am hopefully taking Sixshot a bit away from his brick-like 80s limitations, and into the world of articulated happiness. I'm not really a WIP type of guy, but I have to wait for the new hands and stickers to arrive, so might as well. Hope you guys like it and maybe get some ideas- or even give me some! This has been a serious pain of a project, as I expected, since even with measurements, I had to keep tweaking and redoing things to get everything to transform and move just right. I've wanted to do this as long as I've had this figure though, which is about 15 years. I attached a drawing I did of him in all 6 modes to show that I really studied him well before attempting this. After years of planning ideas and working to improve my own skills with the hope of one day making Sixshot worthy of my Masterpiece shelf (toyline, not OMG I make masterpiece art), here is what I have so far. UPDATED: new pic shows the (very sturdy!) improved gun mode. No reason to have long parts with wheels and treads hanging way off the back of a gun if ya don't have to right? Original transformation look is of course, still an option. UPDATE 2: I found I had some room behind the feet to add something without hindering any transformations, so I made rocket pods. I just really wanted some extra fire power in tank mode without adding new guns or anything that changed the character much. Now he has more of a reason to go to tank mode. New pic attached. And yeah, I know I have his shoulders transformed wrong in the main pic of how he looks so far. I'll get accurate pics in all modes when he is all done up. I made the twin guns link together and cut a cradle brace groove in the gun trigger so the guns can become his tail in wolf form. That was previously the only mode not using the guns, and he needed a tail!
that's awesome dude. wish i had the time to try this ^^ i'm sure it wouldn't come out as nice as yours, but still would love to try. love the bit about the balls. balls balls balls lol.
Thanks for the approval guyz! I added a new pic of the improved gun mode. Why have treads and wheels sticking way out the back of the gun when it can now be more compact? Also the gun mode came out quite stable, so that's good. The barrel end doesn't want to hang down from the middle a bit.
. . . . and I still have my spare for my custom. Your work is so very inspiring. I really appreciate all that you're sharing in this thread.
Just the fact that you eliminated the 'diaper' makes this an incredible and well executed custom. Can't wait to see it completed!
I wish we could get an updated Sixshot. Damn, the original mold by itself holds up rather nicely after 24 years. These mods just take it a step further.
I totally agree with both of you guys, and I rarely play favorites with TFs, but Sixshot is one of my favorite G1 TFs ever for the reason Satomiblood says.
Looks so much original to the real cartoon. Like how you get practical and modified thr only most b needed part. 2 thumbs up!
I gotta be honest, I was cringing when I saw how much you cut to get those ball in but it came out pretty amazing
Here is a new pic to show the new rocket pods I added so he has more of a reason to go to tank mode than just 4 extra small blasters. The pods do not protrude much and do not in any way hinder transformation to any mode. Made by carefully measured placement of tiny plastic gems, then painted. That was a main goal I had. Crucial to updating him for me. There is a 3rd party 6shat on the way and it looks amazing, but from the renders I saw, car mode may end up looking like poo. The wheels look set too far back and I wouldn't think the designers would show renders mistransformed. Thanks SQ! I'm right there with ya. My wife doesn't get it, but Sixshot has been one of my favorite toys since the first time I got him in my hands. 6 nice cybertronian modes really kick start an imagination, and they are all pretty easy to switch him too, unlike the RID Megatron/Galvatron. OH and wifey wanted me to mention her hour of scraping off 25 year old stickers with her fengornaylz. I kinda like him without stickers so I may only add some of them in places that need them most. Yep, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd love to see your version Aprim! And thanks! I was cringing as I did it. I was afraid this might end up being my first all out fail, and believe me, this is one figure too sentimental and loved for me to be okay with that.
Really digging the improved gun mode. One thing, while you're messing around with the pelvis anyway - have you thought about hollowing out the entire abdomen, so it's just a thin shell, then replacing the interior with a block that connects to the upper legs and (maybe with a swivel joint) the chest? It'd allow the abdominal shell to slide down over the upper legs in gun and wolf modes, thus making that area one solid piece instead of two.
