No I have read those stories, and they are widely inconsistent all the way to Combiner Wars. Which again, if you want to go there, the credits of that very same book you referenced doesn't even include More than Meets the Eye writer James Roberts or artists Alex Milne and Nick Roche. Each of which spent the greater part of drawing and writing about those characters in the source material you seem to care more about from what I've seen you post, though I could be wrong.

So my point is, this seems a bit more biased by creative teams that were not working on the non-Earthbased stories for the most part, as long as James Roberts and Milne/Roche were. It was printed, yes, but still widely inconsistent with various artwork throughout the IDW continuity.

It should be stated, I am a fan of Guido. Love his art! Irrelevant to the convo, but wanted to say it otherwise.

 

Oh I agree regarding the inconsistency but I do enjoy the larger sizes started in AHM and continued (again not consistently) in RID, Optimus Prime, and Unicron. I am just giving you my logic and preference, I like Grimlock to be the same height, he could be a little taller but no more than a head, just my taste.

Also I love Guido too, just an amazing artist.

 

I just reread Monstrocity and Grimlock is slightly taller than Optimus there. No more than half a head.

 

This is why the Planet X version is unacceptable.

 

So having G-Creation Ultra Maxmus (IDW Prime), who is only an inch shorter, that might be who I display Planet X's with until MMC releases theirs (if ever).

All this scale talk is delicious. Now you guys know how much of a pain in the butt it is when figuring out how big a figure should be.  

 

Good points, however Cacus is based on his Maximum Dinobots appearance and MMC's is MTMTE, correct? (I believe there are subtle differences in the designs, right? Mainly in the chest?) I feel MMC could still put out Trux at a smaller size since it'd fit better with the MTMTE characters he interacted with, based on the comic. As opposed to Cacus being based on the ginormous dinosaur he was in Maximum Dinobots.
In other words, Cacus being big and Trux being small matches with how those renditions of the character appeared in their respective comics.

Yeah, I was mostly saying "small" as in "not Cacus sized" lol. In other words, a shorter Grimlock to closer match his appearance in MTMTE.

 

Grimlock should be bigger than prime and megatron. However if going by new hasbro wfc as a scale, if prime is a voyager class grimlock should not be commander class. The new mmc prime and mmc megatron are just under 8inches. Planet x grimlock would be 3 inches taller. At 10.6, which is better than the original rumors of him being 13", he would still stand way taller than cw magnus shoulder stacks, taller than mmc sixshot, mmc mors, even towering over planet x star saber and deathasaurus. Grimlock is a natural brute force but he was never the biggest bot on the block. If mmc prime and megatron just under 8, grimlock should be just over 9. Less than 2 in height difference. Just my $0.02.

 

If I consider MMC’s position, 8” or larger, but smaller than 9” makes the most sense yeah I agree. So definitely this way MMC is not anywhere near stepping on Planet X’s, BUT the figure can be within the realm of MMC’ Reformatted line.

I think the thing that's driving all this scale argument is that we have a hard time accepting that Grimlock is just a "normal" powerful bot in the IDW universe. Is he a point 1 percenter? Sure, but that distinction doesn't seem to mean much even within the IDW universe. Look how Black Shadow was treated in the comics. The DJD took him down with barely a scratch.

That would make IDW Devastator about 4 times taller than Bayverse Devastator.
