I bought Sphinx way back when he was first released. At the time, Sphinx and Badcube's SUnsurge showed me that 3P were now playing at a level where they were able to equal or better Hasui designed stuff. Articulation-wise, Sphinx was ahead of his time and has nearly every point of articulation we expect from a TT MP bot today. He also has stylized anime details like the shape of his forearms and the ability to flare the bottom of the legs. On paper he would seem to check off the boxes I'm looking for in an MP today, but to me, the cel version kind of highlights the flaws with his original design and makes me think of this as more of a toon cash grab.

IMO, he's always had very limited viewing angles where he looks good. I think what makes him look off is a combination of his gaps, how soft and doughy the sculpt and plastic are, and the alt mode shapes that compromise his bot mode shapes. THe other problem I have with the cel version is how MMC skimped on the paint (not talking paint deco, but skipping painting the chest white that the original version had) to give us IMO 2 more mediocre face sculpts. I would've accepted those new parts more if they would've redesigned the entire head. That face swap gimmick is bad because experiencing it makes you think it's over-engineered and it ends up compromising the eyes. I also assume it's more expensive for them to manufacture vs other methods.

I think the original version is the better use of the mold and the real world alt details helps you not try to mentally compare him to his toon version. So I did a slight custom by trimming the front bumper to look more like his waist and moved the front tires to his back to try to make the upper chest appear wider and reduce the Bob Paulson from Fight Club look he has. It's a half assed attempt that a 3D printer, kitbashed parts and some paint would do better a job of. But ideally TT or someone else steps up with a better toon Mirage.

Added a selected bunch of stickers from the reprolabel set. I think he was too plain in his stock deco. Satisfied with how he looks now.

Finally got mine. People were right about swapping the head, sure takes quite a lot of force to get the old one apart to tab on the new one. But finally got it eventually yesterday and he's awesome.

Front axle holds its place perfectly. No issues with tolerances, tabs, joints at all he's very well made.

So so glad we went with silver in the end looks so nice. Blue is perfect ah very happy with how damn good he looks, wouldn't change a thing.

I'm not going to reprolabel mine but I would like to know where to look for the numbers to go on the nose. I know it's not animation accurate but it seems like they are missing to me. since they are on the sides I don't feel like they would be out of place whereas the reprolabels might be a bit too much. thank you for your help.

still have this weird feeling that after all of this run has sold out they will reissue a full decoed version be it the original or the A version.

Now that I've had the figure a little while and got acquainted with him, I feel like they nailed the Mirage to the same extent that FT nailed Hound, but this one obviously has much better engineering and a better transformation. Don't expect that I'll ever want to replace him with something better. And much like Willis, I doubt that even TT will make something better.

got my C version today, nice hefty piece and easy transformation, only issue I had was the pin that holds the wheel on didn't go through both holes so I didn't want to push to hard on it to transform it. got out the tools and pushed the pin through the right way and all is good now. overall, nice bot that looks the part.

so what scale would you guys guess this guy is? like 1/24 or something? it's been a few decades since I built models so my mental scale chart is way off.

1/24 tends to be 7 inch cars right? mp carbots are usually between 5 n 6 though I think so 1/32 is probably closer.

Only model cars I have are a bunch of very old 43's and one 18.
