Please, please Nautica. She's even got retool potential, with both Firestar and Velocity sharing superficially similar torsos, so that can totally be factored into the budgeting.

And if Velocity becomes a thing, I could even see a potential side-tool into passable IDW-Blurr and Transtech-esque Cheetor.

Anybody got a good idea of the scale with mainline figures?

 

A few justified exceptions aside, MMC Reformatted figures are Voyager height, minimum.

 

Nautica could be a retool of Aero Alpha if they just get it more streamlined and feminine.

Not really? The alt-modes are vaguely similar in shapes, but Nautica's robot mode doesn't wear the mass anywhere close to that.

Better off designing a whole new Nautica that can serve as a launching point for a bunch of new retools, rather than pidgeonholing themselves to that one tooling that doesn't even make for a great Nautica to begin with.

 

Do either of you have any idea what's going on with the Autobot cassettes for MMC? Also it'd be nice to have a similar sized Ratbat.

 

I think it'd be the opposite problem for the alt-mode, where Nautica's doesn't really resemble anything Firestar (more like Kup), Moonracer (Cybertronian car) or Chromia (kinda like Afterburner?) have going on. If anything maybe you can use the turbine parts to maaaaaybe retool Windblade, but there would have to be substantial differences with wings and headsculpt and whatnot.

We never saw IDW Firestar's alt-mode, so they could just make that up, easily. But Nautica, Firestar, and Velocity share the same general torso shape, with the split windscreen chest. And that's where I'm coming from. Use the torso as the core, and then design a few different limb sets to work with that and get a bunch of different characters out of it.

And then, again, as a potentially added bonus, some clever design work with Velocity's wheel-limbs could allow them to serve as a basis for IDW Blurr and Transtech Cheetor. Stick those limbs together with a more masculine torso, and you get a whole extra 'bot or two out of that.

 

I love that you guys might do Whirl twice. On the one hand, he really does need a second pass (unless Flametoys tackles him), on the other hand it tickles me he'd get done twice considering. BTW, he's one of the small handful of MMC MTME characters I do have. The design doesn't really capture him, but he's two awesome not to have. If you guys do a second pass that really captures his skeletal, psychotic goodness, I'll have to get that one as well.

 

Hmm, I get that he’s colored the way he was originally intended (and the way he was colored on a lot of the comic covers), but I was hoping for in-comic colors.

All the additional red, yellows and browns really clutter the design, so I’d have loved to have seen a mostly orange, white and bone-white colored Rung.

Mold is great though, and again, I get why he has the colors that he has. Just not what I like and this is in fact a dealbreaker to me.   Hope this sells well enough for a repaint…?

 

So the little computer pad is built into his backpack, correct? Looks like it's at the top of his uh... jackhammer-pleasure-wand mode in the proto pics, but not the painted ones.

 

I see Where you are coming from... I actually thought a transtecb cheetor could be made out of chromedome.

But back to what you were saying... Nautica and Scourge share very similar alt modes as well.

So I can see idw nautica figure being retooled into a classic Scourge which would sell well because of the added genwunners. I can also see a wingblade tho it's been said before, of they do a reformatted wingblade they wouldn't make her a remode of something but actually give her, her own mode and make characters from that mold. As well that both velocity and firestar sharing same chest/torso so they could be retools like wing was from drift, and I feel they would ask and or commission Alex milne to design what her alt mode would look like, he did it before for MMC. I mean wow that's already so many figures Nautica - scourge - Velocity - Firestar - blurr - transtech cheetor plus other fembot vehicles.

 

I love how every thread about a Reformatted toy turns into: Where is Nautica and MMC is still not releasing one. They must believe all this chatter is instigated by a small group of Nautica fanboys and decided just to ignore it.  

Anyhow Mentis looks great but I also wonder if we will get the data pad since it
is not shown in the last update.

Still coming, low priority. Attention right now is on Maximas Pro and getting stuff like D-Zef out.

 

I suspect that Eris Kultur is gonna be the premold for Nautica. Doesn't look too tough to swap out the tank parts for hovercraft kibble. We all remember how hard MMC worked their last fembot mold!
