Studio Ox or no, that figure is butt ugly. I think Saltus nails the Ox face sculpt though.

Seems like a real talented guy with strong vision. Is there a list somewhere of toys he’s designed? The TFWiki only shows official Takara ones.

TFWiki sticks to offical TFs by default. No 3P documentation whatsoever.

Thanks for that, I totally forgot Kubalsky was with MMC. That guy’s work has always been amazing. His origins in origami are so neat, and his design for Classics Mirage still has *so* much personality in it.

Guy is a legend, as far as I’m concerned. Worked for Takara, too, not Hasbro.

Quite the article. I've unknowingly been a long time fan of his work. The pic they chose for the article makes it seem like he completed Squidward's art class at Bikini Bottom Community Center. I can hear Squidward saying... "Art is suffering!"

Wait really? Do we know that for sure?

Guess he went from Classics Mirage to MP Mirage in 10 years. Neat-o.

What really gets me with the Toyworld figure is just how wide and deep all his etched panel lines are, like they were carved with a freakin' screwdriver.

If it weren't for that, he'd be an interesting alternative as a somewhat more toy-inspired take on MP Springer. As-is, he doesn't look like he belongs anywhere near a TF collection because his heavy-handed detailing is so visually jarring.

Mm I'd love a pure ox design of him but TW's attempt was pretty bad between the oversized forearms, messy chest and awkward legs.

Man now not only do I want to shed Rouge for Azalea, I want to unload Apache for Saltus. MMC stepping up their game like XTB!

to be honest they look like the siege line with all the lines and panels that add nothing to the design.

While Siege's greebly details can certainly be overdone at times, the canyon-sized panel lines on Toyworld Springer are really something else.

My Saltus arrived yesterday. MP-scale Springer #3 after Allen and Apache.

Not all is perfect in wonderland, as he has the same under-painted face that a few others have gotten. One of his cheeks is noticeably more silver than the other. Tossed MMC an email to see if they can help.

With that out of the way, let me tell you...If you have ANY interest in actually picking up and handling your figures, Saltus is miles ahead of both Allen and Apache. The transformation is a joy even on the 1st go-through. He's solid, heavy, built well. Poses like a champ. I appreciate that his alt modes aren't G1 lineart perfect, but subjectively? I like the way they look. Particularly the car mode, which has its own identity rather that just being a 'helicopter minus rotor plus wheels.'

What Saltus has is a little something called a balanced design. There are compromises everywhere, but they're spread thinly across the sculpt and design of all three modes. As a result nothing is perfect, but everything works really well. There's none of this "we're going to completely trash this figure's transformation to make it look 15% better in robot mode."

I'm charmed. After my experience with Omnishambles, I was ready to sign off on OX Max products. But now? Well, Saltus is one of the best 3P figures I've handled in ages. Maybe I will end up with a TFTM shelf after all...

I finally got him a couple of days ago, and I am very satisfied with this guy. He scales well with my other (sadly only a handful of) season 3 bots and he poses like a champ. First and second thing I did was swap out the Studio Ox head for the more cartoon one because the Ox head just looks to sharp and angular to fit with the rest of the mold for my tastes, and slap on a silver outlined Autobot symbol. And just like what shogun221 said, everything feels balanced. It's not quite a 1:1 representation of the G1 cartoon, but it fits well enough that I feel absolutely no regret getting him.

My one complaint that I have with him, however, is that his thumbs tend to pop off when trying to fit in the sword/spear/gun items. Now I need Azalea/Arcee, a Blurr, Wreck-Gar, *Sigh* maybe Wheelie, a Sharkticon, Scourge, and what's that wallet? You're curled up crying in a corner.
