Yep. In the episode where bruticus is made, Megatron is shown standing up to devastators waist and then a few minutes later, bruticus picks him up in one hand.

That can be chopped up to the Constructicons being further from the camera ultimately

I recently decided to quit the FT combiners and stick with Zeta and XTB, mostly because of the individual bots. I sold Iceman, Spoiler and Magnum, and cancelled preorders for Viper, Jester and Bandit. For the Stunticons, this was an easy decision, as the XTB youth set are so wonderfully like the G1 toy, which is the 80s source I care about most. For the Aerialbots, Zeta also look more like the G1s, especially with Toyhax stickers. But also, I find both sets more fun. I like to fiddle around with the bots and transform them regularly. FT leaves me thinking "that was clever", but Zeta/XTB leave me thinking "that was fun".

I've kept Maverick and Roadking because they're genuinely impressive, and Smokey because I like the alt mode.

However, I agree about TW Constructor. For him, the combined mode is excellent but the individuals are rather blocky and dated.

Meanwhile, the MMC combiners are glorious and some of my favourite TFs. I would replace pretty much anything if MMC produced it in the same style as their combiners!

Combiners mass shift in the g1 cartoon, that can't be reproduced in toy form (or any form tbh lol), but the combiner transformations can

The pantsformers use a lot of extra "combiner" kibble to try to give the illusion of mass shift...

Both approaches try to represent what was presented in the cartoon. It is up to the collectors what they value more

I personally value the clever engineering and the design behind these toys more than anything else, so OM and CT's combiners are the ones for me

Yesterday I tried truck mode, well, transformation was fun and simpler than I was expecting. The only part that worried me was one joint in the leg that was so stiff that I considered trying to disassemble the thigh and see if everything was ok, but in the end I managed to move it. It was nice to have everything line up and tab at the first try, something that doesn't happen as often as I'd love in the 3p world.
Fire truck mode is big, comparable to Ultra Magnus' car carrier mode, albeit shorter since all the mass is compacted without hollow parts. It will be fun to put him next to MP Inferno when I transform it too and realize they are supposed to be the same vehicle.

Clearly, it's Megatron changing size between shots...

I love my Constructor - in both combined and indicvidual modes. Yes, the individual modes are not cartoon accurate but they are chunky bruisers who have enough cues to be instantly recognisable as the character.
I will also get Destructor, for two reasons: through the change in the 3P landscape over the years, my collection has started to take on a more toon-based look (though this is not a focus of mine) and these would fit in with some of the more recent figures; and, starting with Defensor, and with Assaultus (when it is re-released), it will be nice to have combiners who don't have to have a 'subspace storage pocket' just to exist. I don't begrudge anyone who likes partformers - I have TW Devy and Zeta Superion (and XTB Menasor, though it doesn't qualify) - but there is something that appeals to me with transformers that could conceivably exist in our world without the need for magic.
I'll keep my existing combiners because I'm a hoarder, and so I'll be able to enjoy their shelf presence for a while yet. But at this point, I think I'm out on collecting new 20-inch combiners (unless someone makes one that I can't justify passing up).

The animators were following the storyboard artists, who in turn were following the scripts.

If you want to see where the scene of Starscream on Bruticus's shoulder comes from, it's here:

The Sunbow Marvel Archive: MP 700 The Transformers, Part 1 1984 - 1985 (Sunbow Productions/Marvel Productions)

Megatron was in the middle of transforming into a gun before he was grabbed by Bruticus.

When I want absurdolooney scale I put combined bots with legends. MMCs size hits a sweet spot where the combiner bot is massive but not too large for them.

I love Guardia's combined mode. I think it's still the best-looking Defensor I've ever seen.

The individual Protectobots, though, not so much.

What an absolute delight of a bot! He's a paler blue in hand than I expected; not disappointed at all, but a bit of a surprise. His transformation is a delight, all around; and zero QC issues so far!

For those curious, although you could flip around the red bot mode chest, it won't tab in anywhere, and it sits unstable and crooked. I suppose it's stable enough to hold a pose (it's just the chest plate after all), but if you really want it, paint it or wait for the toy version I suppose:
    IMG_20240530_191624004.jpg IMG_20240530_191637395_HDR.jpg IMG_20240530_191645514_HDR.jpg

Additionally, you can flip the ladder out in bot mode just fine, without losing any stability:
    IMG_20240530_190125931.jpg IMG_20240530_190131880.jpg IMG_20240530_190150312.jpg

You can do the same in combine mode, both with and without the collar, but it makes the backpack flaps very loose, and the ladder sticks out a little diagonally too:

(Edit: to explain, to be able to pull the ladder out, the whole blue part of the ladder assembly must be angled, and the large backpack flaps can barely, if at all, peg in anywhere anymore, even on the siren lights)
    IMG_20240530_191144277.jpg IMG_20240530_191153483.jpg IMG_20240530_191301480.jpg IMG_20240530_191306469.jpg IMG_20240530_191310574.jpg IMG_20240530_191325257.jpg

All in all even more options for display, albeit a little wonky. I'll think mine will mostly be in default configuration with the collar; I don't care enough about the red chest in combine mode, nor the ladder, but I really like the collar.

Can't wait for the team to be complete...!

I don't believe FT at least followed TW/Zeta for their combiners. They would be following their own Omega Supreme who pre-dates Constructor, TW/Zeta may have even followed it, though there is no way to know. When FT first announced Superion (their first combiner) they advertised it specifically as the biggest ever (only Constructor was released in that size category at the time) and perfectly in scale with FT-20 (Omega).

I'm glad I finished reading posts before I replied instead of posting as soon as I thought it, I would have just repeated what is already here.

Either you're hearing it wrong, or everyone around you is saying it wrong. It's chalked. Chopped makes no sense. Chalked as in, making a tally mark on a board.

"You can't beat your cake and salve it, too". :p

(sorry for the totally OT post, but I too had to parse the original comment for a minute before understanding)

The expression is definitely "chalked up." Seems like "chopped up," in this case, is an eggcorn.
