Well since this guy is dead I assume we'll get a new one after Bruticus:( . And it looked so good with it's OX vibe but now it'll probably be super toon

OX can't make a minibot that doesn't fall apart in your hands. I like their style, but seriously...until they get their QC under control, they have no business getting near gestalts.

Most likely, maybe they'll use parts of the design in a non-scramble version? No point doing a full scramble combiner when their Bruticus can't swap limbs around.

Rather, no reason do put any effort into surface details, making the figure look good and the like when the most vocal fanbase wants toon "accurate" styling.

There can be effort put into other details. Even in terms of sculpt. Toon accuracy is not an inhibitor. It’s a genre. It’s evolved, has depth, variations and you don’t need to like it. But it is a valid design choice. Especially since it’s very popular.

Funny thing is, when I've looked at polls about whether want X to be toon accurate or not, it always comes out heavily, heavily against. And when I look at the people who push it, it's the same names over again. In other words, it isn't actually anywhere near a majority of the fanbase, it's just that the people who want it tend to be very, very loud about it.

The problem with that is that nobody cares for this product specifically because its not a “what people want” its “what the product is”
If you are marketing an Ocular Max (their MP line) Defensor, you’re going to expect it to follow suit with other Ocular Max products
You can’t just change a line out of nowhere and make something something it isn’t marketed/said to be just by its name
    There’s a difference between
    “I want a Cyclonus”
    And
“I want an Ocular Max Cyclonus”
Anyone who thinks/wants an Ocular Max figure to not be toon accurate is either stupid or never seen any of the figures, because literally the point of the line is to be toon accurate
Same would go for like Generation Toy or GCreation tho those companies are always going to be very stylized

    Somebody didnt read the post

Toon Accuracy isn’t just “look at these blocks with no detail”
IMO the best 3p MP companies make figures that fit in the display but with a little of their own style and detail in the figure, not just the toon model

Yeah but how are companies like fanstoys, maketoys or takara surviving if not for people who want toon figures?
And that’s okay. Cause it’s what you think. Even if you missed my point.
    Thank you.
Exactly. Even if they’re not completely accurate like with springer or arcee it’s clear the toon accuracy is present as a goal. They just happen to have a style. And nobody should be dictating what it looks like. Cause that’s their vision. It only matters if they can still make a toy that works.

I hope MMC doesn't abandon, but instead re-evaluate after their Bruticus figure. I agree that people want Protectobots that are more accurate to the cartoon.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I had a conversation with the MMC rep and one of the Toy Dojo guys, and they let me know that the figure has not been scrapped or abandoned, but is being reworked to incorporate the new tech that is being learned and utilized from their Bruticus. Dude told me to be patient and expect something after Bruticus is closer to completion.

lol, but with Groove being a Shin, I can't see them getting around not partsforming for his foot at the minimum.
I would be impressed if they somehow did the parts to form a foot for groove.

I'm curious what MMC thinks the future/longevity of this market looks like, if they've thought about it at all. Or what any third-party company thinks.

At the pace they produce figures, their backlog (announced and unannounced) is probably 5 years deep. (Setting aside having to update and improve designs in the backlog to keep modern over time.)

People buying third-party figures are probably mostly in their 30s and 40s, and getting older. Is there that much of a younger customer base coming in who will keep buying these things?

From what I saw at the CON, there were a lot of youngsters. Very few people above 50, the most were 14-45 years of age.
I think there will be a customer base in the future as there were a lot of kids and teens at the CON.
As long as MMC changes their niche according to the market I think they can survive. I do think there will eventually be an end to the G1 designs though.
The thing that they have on Defensor is that no one has put out a true G1 MP Defensor as of yet, all we have is the stylized Generation toy one.
