Tom Cruise Signs on to ‘Mission: Impossible’ Franchise for 6th Action Movie MI is to America what James Bond is to England: both are long-running spy shows that began in the 60s and are still going strong (though Bond has taken a beating in recent years). Anyway, more of Tom Cruise doing insane stunts!
Ever since the bad second one, these movies have done nothing but get better. I can't wait to see the next one and whatever crazy practical stunts they cook up.
Hmm.. only thing that might top that is trying to stop a rocket from blasting off to deliver a satellite/payload into space.
IMO, "Ghost Protocol" was really the first great MI movie, and while "Rogue Nation" wasn't as awful or cheesy as the first three, it was also surprisingly boring as hell, so I really have no expectations of what the next one could deliver.
The first one is interesting for having the biggest fan slapping-of-the-face of all time, trumping anything Bay did to Transformers fans a billionfold. The sheer balls of it makes it worth watching. But that will be lost on anyone who wasn't a fan of the original series. Other than that, it was a pretty run-of-the-mill action-thriller. Everything after the first movie ranged from mediocre to outright terrible. You're not really missing much.
Is there no way I can convince you to get comic book guy as your avatar, your post would be that much more enjoyable reading with his pic.
I never really saw the 1st film all the way thru. The second was regrettable. I really enjoyed the 3rd- unknown magguffin aside. 4th one- crap! I thought it to be pretty good. 5th one- not quite as good as the 4th, but still not too bad. Bring on #6!
Third was too predictable. Less than 10 minutes in, I called it. Lowest common denominator, dumbed down writing. And in the fourth movie, the antagonist's dumb scheme was pulled out of an X-Men movie. Ridiculous. The second movie, like you said, is regrettable. John Woo's second worst Hollywood movie. The first one is kind of okay because even though you start to see the twist coming, if you are a fan of the original show, you tell yourself it can't be that, because of the character involved.
I'll probably give this one a shot once it's available for home viewing. I always thought I-III were campy as hell, loved the new approach with Ghost Protocol, but was bored to tears with Rogue Nation. So... I have no real expectations for Fallout, but am hoping it's more akin to Ghost Protocol in way of pacing, action and general story.
I enjoyed Ghost Protocol and know going in what kind of movie this is and what to expect. It's a fun action movie. I won't see it in theaters of course, but I'm sure I'll catch it eventually.
