I love the SS '86 line to death! Until recently, I really cut back my collection to focus on just my favorite characters, but now I want to create an '86 movie focused collection as I'm sure a lot of us do. We know Wreck-Gar and The Sweeps are coming, but a lot of key figures are obviously missing from the line up so far - Cyclonus, Ultra Magnus, Galvatron, Springer, Arcee, etc. Is there any hope of these characters also showing up as SS '86 figures or not? Should we wait it out in hopes of further announcements? Of should we snatch them up from the War for Cybertron line while we still have the chance? What other additional options are out there for certain figures?

I know I can't be the only one asking these questions right now, and while I know there is a great SS '86 appreciation thread, it's already 128 pages long and hard to wade through for people looking for answers to these specific questions to build the "perfect" '86 movie collection. So here is what I hope will become that thread. (Mod please delete is this is too repetitious, but I honestly didn't see a thread specific enough to this topic yet.)

So what is your strategy to complete your '86 movie collection?

Offhand I would say Adding titans return preceptor. A blaster I could see somewhere down the line. Maybe some filler junkions. Combiner wars devastator

Hmm... Well, there is the rumors of Wreck-Gar, the Sweeps, and Slag, Sludge, Snarl, and Swoop for the SS 86 movie line, but...

Pretty sure what we've gotten in the War for Cybertron line is gonna be it. I think the SS 86 movie figures line is just a way to help push out more of the figures quick alongside the WfC stuff.

Siege Springer, Earthrise Arcee, Kingdom Cyclonus...

Rodimus Prime and Galvatron also further rumored for the Kingdom line...

Really, the only 86 movie characters left that need some kind of rumor/announcement are Blaster (plus his tapes) and Perceptor. I'd say Wheelie, too, but I get the feeling the non-transformable figure we got with Grimlock is gonna be it, so the closest best substitute there is the Titans Return Wheelie.

WFC and SS are two halves of a whole. Characters from one won't be repeated in the other.

If you want to fill out some Junkion ranks, there is the Generations 1.0 mold. It looks a bit different from the current style but with Junkions, that actually works to its benefit so it should look good with a new Wreck Gar and other junkion repaints from that newer mold.

When it comes to Ultra Magnus, I use the Combiner Wars version myself and I use Titans Return Perceptor until a newer one comes along there.

I feel like the SS 86 line is really just a spin off of WFC. Like they designed a lot of pure G1 stuff but had to fit Beast Wars in due to its 25th Aniv but hasbro was stuck with multiple G1 toys so they threw half into Kingdom and then made SS 86 from the rest.

I just want a full set of blaster tapes. Preferably stylized and size of the mp Soundwave tapes.

I guess. Hope Perceptor gets rumored for the line at some point though.

As others have said, SS86 toys were originally planned as WFC toys. Then Hasbro had to change plans, so they invented a partial new line to put out all the toys they had lined up and still accommodate their new plan.

So no, we won't be getting another Cyclonus, Springer, or Arcee - what we already have from the past two years is it. They aren't missing, they're just over there.

There will be a new Magnus and Galvatron, yes, but they are Kingdom toys, not SS86. And this is merely a matter of packaging and labelling, really - they all share the same scale and design aesthetics.

That being said, they need to reissue Springer without that Siege Battle Damage.

Titans Return Perceptor and Wheelie are great figures. Earthrise Arcee is woefully underrated.

What would you even want from a SS86 Cyclonus that you didn't get from Kingdom? A cardboard stand?

My understanding from the leakers is that WFC3 was to be 86 Movie focused. When the next live action film was cancelled, they moved enough figures out of WFC to fill out the SS line with only some minor changes (mostly removing most COMBAT ports). The Beast Wars figures were supposedly going to be their own sub line and moved into WFC to take their place.

Now this is interesting. I do, as it happens, use the MP toys for Soundwave's tapes (the CHUG versions are incomplete and, at least for Frumble, regrettably shit).

So just how big are these? And how old are they? Is there a reasonable chance of acquiring them now?

They're the same size as G1 and Masterpiece cassettes. I got them about 2.5 years ago but they don't seem as common on Ebay these days.

It's a shame they didn't make Ravage because Steeljaw and Ramhorn impressed me with their articulated jaws.
