Hello all, first time post and could use some help. Several years ago I was Christmas shopping at Walmart and I came across a couple package sets for the Transformers Universe. One was The Data War and the other was War of the Waves. I grabbed one of each and when I got home I noticed The Data War package has the names for the War of the Waves posted on the front. The Transformers themselves are correct, just names. Is that really something important? I went back to Walmart the next day and none of the others were mislabeled. I'm not much of a collector to display and I didn't want to give this away as a gift. Is there any merit this is worth more than a normal package? I'm guessing know but wanted to ask the community. Thanks for any help!
Looking at the packaging it's actually just that the two paper inserts with the names on them got used for the wrong set, not misprinted. It could be worth something to a Universe completionist, but since they're not marquee characters, or even popular figures I wouldn't count on it. It's not like it's a early G1 variant box, but you never know, I'm constantly surprised by what others think things are worth. If you've held on to it this long, it couldn't hurt to wait awhile longer. Since it does have the 25th Anniversary logo on it your best bet might be to wait until the 35th Anniversary, when it's 10 years old. But right now I think it's probably only worth a little more than what you paid, if that.
Minor packaging mistakes, especially swapped cardboard name inserts, happen all the time. From my experience, they're "worth" as much as misassembled toys: Unless you find that one crazy collector who is into this kind of stuff, it's a flawed product. Simple as that.
