Time for a simple thread. So, I'm thinking I need to have a landmine of cash lying around. So, 10 years from now, which one of the recently-released deluxe figures will be worth the most if kept MISB?
To be honest.....none? They're widely avaliable and I'm sure we'll be seeing them long after they're gone. The designs arent really a hit with the original crowd. And its mostly a fad with the younger crowd unless they turn serious. And I found myself recently playing around with my other stuff other than movie verse, except for barricade. But then again barricade is the first decepticon police car...so maybe he'll be worth something? (correct me if i'm wrong)
I'm not talking about MISB-Fortress-Maximus kinds of prices, just wondering which one will most likely cost the most in the future.
Well, when G1 came out, most of us ---95%, who were 8-10 didnt buy Transformers for profit or investment we played with our toys. The 90's saw the Collectors market emerge, first with baseball cards, comics, then action figure lines like MOTU, Star Wars, and Transformers. So I would say since then its been a collectors market. Oversaturation in the market killed the baseball and comic scene and it will impact most of the modern Transformers lines as well. A good indication is the Beast Wars line. It came out in 1996 and the prices for the majority of figures have relativley remained constant. You can still buy sealed figures for under $20 and there isnt anything that is extremely rare in the line. More people hold on to their collections now for investment than before.
Yeah, Animated Arcee might be your best bet. Human Alliance Mudflap could join her unless Hasbro rereleases it somehow under HftD or more simply show up to fill the need. Beyond that...probably Japanese exclusives with somewhat shorter production runs. Maybe the new Animated Black Optimus could end up fetching Black Big Convoy prices, or at least Black Lio Convoy, but I'm not sure of the production runs of the latter two and if it's an appropriate comparison.
I would say if you really want something that has a chance of being worth anything... try botcon figures or maybe a tfcc pcp.
Tuner Mudflap i mean, no fan bought it, so all will end up in a landfill, so yeah, watch some collector digging in a landfill in new mexico for a tuner mudflap where all were dumped
Ya never know. He could end up as a big time collector piece in the future. There have been plenty of shelfwarmers that have become desirable at some point (thinking of the UK and Overlord).
I'm actually keeping my NEST Campaign Recon Ravage in it's box (not the shipping box), with the intact "Letter from Optimus". I figure they'll be worth something together later on.
right next to all the E.T. Atari 2600 games? I am not sure to be honest collecting is more prominent now so more figures are saved so it likely going to have be something that is rare now.
Kinda derailing my own thread, but we should pick up all of the Tuner Mudflaps we can find, take them all to Botcon and set them up in someone's hotel room like a glorified version of this:
