Was just thinking how rich the opportunities are for stories set in pre-War Cybertron in the vein of Shadowplay. I'm not thinking something that has to link into the mythology like that story, or origins/early war stories like Autocracy etc. It's more the noir-ish elements of Shadowplay that I think were really effective in that setting. Corruption in high places, murder, mystery. Not all out action and fighting, not overly wordy exposition and high concept, just straight up adventure mystery. I would absolutely LOVE that.
Same here. A few more stories like that to paint a picture of pre-war Cybertronian society would be beautifull. And i wouldn't mind a few similar stories taking place amidst the various underdevelloped stages of the war.
Considering the war for Cybertron was four million years long (in IDW at least) I'm surprised by how few pre-war and wartime stories we have gotten over the years. Some of my favorite stories from the IDW comics revolves around corruption in high places and murder. A mystery story involving Nightbeat would be cool to see, too.
We'll hopefully be seeing a bit of that in Optimus Prime, since it splits the narrative between current-day Optimus and pre-war Orion Pax. Unfortunately it's not written by Roberts, but Barber's pre-war stuff about Shockwave and Soundwave was pretty good. But I would totally be in for a pre-war series set during the reign of Nominus, or even during Nova's Golden Age.
You know, an ongoing with a choice of one-shots and 2-4 part minishots would be gorgeous. And for added awesomeness, get some of the writers from the older series' to come in and maybe slap some fill in the blanks stories to add a little more depth to what has currently been printed. I'd snap that up
