Micron Legend Sonic Assault Team (DVD exclusive)

The Micron Legend Sonic Assault Team is a repaint of the Armada Air Military team. It was exclusively available in Japan as a set of special bundles with DVDs number 5, 6 and 7 of the Micron Legend anime, collecting episodes 17-20, 21-24 and 25-28 respectively.

This trio is famous for being the prettiest Fembot team in the whole Transformers multiverse, and its members are:

Combusta, with missile boobs.

Falcia, the tall and slender blackbird.

Twirl, the hybrid between a stealth bomber and a duckling.

Packaging

Each DVD packaging comes with a single micron. The packaging includes external packaging, micron bubble, big illustration which completes the side illustration when the DVD is in, DVD case, DVD, instructions and Linkage manga pages (4 for each DVD, the last of which is usually a "character bio').

DVD 5, 6 and 7

DVD #5 comes with episodes 17-20:

17: Conspiracy, the one where Scavenger betrays the Decepticons.
18: Trust, the one where Scavenger gets acceptance.
19: Vacation, the one where giant robots go on vacation.
20: Reinforcement, the one where Blurr joins the Autobots (possibly the final "minicon of the week" episode).

DVD #6 comes with episodes 21-24:

21: Decisive Battle, the one where Megatron loses the Skyboom Shield to the Autobots.
22: Vow, the one where Optimus Prime vows to free all mini-cons from slavery.
23: Rebellion, the one where Starscream challenges Megatron and Sideways hints at the Big Bad.
24: Chase, the one where Sideways pulls a Shodan.

DVD #7 comes with episodes 25-28:

25: Tactician, the one where Thrust and Jetfire join the war.
26: Linkup, the one where Optimus and Jetfire combine into Jetpants Prime.
27: Detection, the one where Decepticons detect Sideways' deception.
28: Awakening, the one introducing Tidal Wave and the Requiem Blaster.

These 12 episodes are a welcome transition away from the "monster of the week" format. Starting with episode 21, the series starts becoming more tolerable, and we get a much stronger plot thanks to Sideways' machinations, even if it took 20 episodes to get here.

Linkage manga, parts 5, 6 and 7

The story picks up: Falcia, the Fembot from the Bronx, joins the Super Stunt team. After being attacked by Magna Wing, Falcia is rescued by Combusta. To same Twirl's life, Redline and Falcia make a baby. Part 7 is the "title drop" episode, with the introduction of the Linkage, the "soul dimension" of all microns.

Alt mode

The three microns look lovely, with one of the best minicon team deco ever made.

Robot mode

The colors chosen turn the rough Air Military team into a fembot squad, with a strong and assertive look. This team means business, and looks like it. Excellently executed.

Targetmaster mode

The members of the Sonic Assault team transform into weapons. Falcia becomes a wolverine claw, Combusta kill-everything-gun, an Twirl... a space shuriken? The colors look awesome, but the clear plastic used is a guaranteed breakage waiting to happen. I don't think I will ever transform Falcia again after this review.

Overall...
The Micron Legend Sonic Assault Team looks fabulous, with some of the best color schemes and alt modes every made for a Fembot.
Three DVDs will cost you a pretty penny, possibly more than others in the series: this is possibly the strongest trio of all five. But don't expect too much durability from Falcia.

Overall, I give the Sonic Assault a 8/10, losing two point because of Falcia's breakage risk.
