So just got Titan Wars Powermaster Optimus Prime, and I see that the designers have continued with putting tiny doors and ladders around the alt mold sculpt.

Do we know why they come up with adding these details? To me they just detract from the experience. Kids are probably wonder what the deal is as well.

Does anyone know what gives? I have heard that it has something to that Ultra Magnus was "HHHHUUUUGE" in the IDW comic books. But that makes zero sense.

    Uh-oh. This again.
Aside from a few members here, I really don't think anyone cares.

Sentinel Prime's train mode has doors and railings in the same scale too.

I kind of like the notion that the little Titan Masters are actually "regular-sized" Transformers and then the main figures are insanely huge.

Also, Ultra Magnus is a pretty big guy in IDW (about twice the height of your average 'turns into a car' guy), but he's not 'vehicle mode is ten stories tall' big. It's just the toy designers having some fun.

One of the better reasons I've heard that Magnus' size is based on Minimus being an average sized car. I mean, that's still total bonkers nonsense, but there's at least an internal logic to it.

I loved these details as a kid. Added a sense of life to the alt modes as they felt functional.

CW UM has been stated by the designer to be in 1:144 scale, so it stands to reason PMP would be in the same scale, and therefore have similarly scaled details, here is what it looks like with a 1:144 scale human

It really ticked me off when I first heard about, but after seeing pictures of him, he wouldn't fit in my collection, anyway.

I still hate that garbage mold because of the fans, though.

The doors aren't meant to be human-sized. They were added to the altmodes to facilitate the Autobot-Smurf alliance. ;)

It's easy enough to ignore because of mass shifting...a key component to Transformers since 1984.

Those details aren't painted to stand out anyway so I ignore them.

I imagine Ultra Magnus to be his Cybertronian self similar to a normal truck.

Because the Titanmasters use characters like Grax and Haywire who were humans in G1 I see Scourge and Sentinel's cockpits as human sized.

It's interesting because the Sweeps of this mold are to me the size of cars.

i think the problem with those doors/ladders is they just invite questions that didn't need to be asked.

Like if you have a Deluxe car next to Magnus, they are roughly in scale (yeah, Magnus is a tad small, but they are still relatively there ~ he's actually just about perfect with Scout cars like Windcharger and Hubcap) but then you see those ladders/doors and it just invites a "wait, what the heck" moment...

...and doesn't really serve any other purpose i can fathom.

I suspect the reasoning for the crazy scale boils down to Minimus Ambus. They wanted to include him, and since UM is a car carrier, it made the most sense in terms of play pattern to make Ambus a car. But since he also needed to fit inside Magnus' chest, he needed to be a tiny car. Thus, the massive double-wide car carrier was born.

Personally I don't care. He's a fun toy, and Transformers scale has always been a trainwreck. If I felt a need to rationalize it, I'd say the little ladder is there for tiny, smaller-than-human Cybertronians or aliens to use. Maybe Magnus has a crew of Micronauts who ride around with him.

Seriously, it is easy to ignore. If we can collectively ignore Pretender humans the size of buildings and cockpits for tiny humans on sleds designed for human-sized robots...this is right there, too.

I mean, you CAN drive yourself insane forcing Transformers to scale with whatever scale you're hoping them to be. But you will go insane...because Hasbro doesn't care.

Pretty much how it is for me.

I honestly want to believe it's because of Devastator, but if it was for Minibus Anus...that stupid little cnot colored Luigi... I swear, stop letting fanfic writers work on Transformers... I knew Hasbro were dumb, but this is insane.

    Come on now chuckie.

You can always sand it off too or just put some other detail on it. Sticker perhaps.

Does the ladder bother you as well?

Forget why and just get rid of it. :)
