So what? Transformers reinvents itself in every iteration, that's what it does. This was never billed as a G1 movie, you have literally no reason to expect it to be faithful to G1.

I don't understand what's so bad about a tow truck. If that thing came full speed at you and you're in your tiny ass suburban that thing will rip your car in half and keep going. And ontop of this that tow truck is HUGE! Just another reason to complain I guess.

I'm having a hard time bringing myself to get excited considering the 'Con's survival record, and just how many of them turned out to be bitchmade.

He'll be Onslaughtered by Prime in the middle of the climax after doing fuck all for 2 hours.

Oh, and I don't have a problem with him being a tow truck, since I don't think a long bedded truck can casually drive around with missiles mounted on it's bed.

 

I think it's a neat disguise either way.

More important than whether his alt mode is G1 or not is what his character is like. I hope he has at least some aspects of a tactician or strategist, and even if he doesn't I hope the character is at least interesting in his own right.

Also, I don't mind big changes to characters if the result is entertaining or interesting. Hound, Crosshairs, and Wheelie are very little like their G1 inspirations, but I love them anyways on their own merit. In Onslaught's case I would like him to still have some aspects of his original persona.

Also, notice how his tally of Autobots is less than Hound's Decepticon tally? I think it would be neat if he was a strategist, and the reason he has less kills than Hound is because he prefers to watch other Cons execute his battle plans, and consequently he only gets in Autobot or human kills when he needs to. I'm not saying that will happen by any stretch (it's probably more likely there are simply fewer Autobots left to kill), but I think for a character like Onslaught it could be a cool way to do things.

RID Steeljaw has to be one of the biggest departures, virtually everything has changed from the G1 version. Not that everyone's happy with him, but it's a good example.
