UPDATE: Starsaber had always been a favourite Autobot Leader of mine, so I've been very excited by the announced MP (not so much by his character in MTMTE, heh). The idea of making a custom of him never crossed my mind till CheechDaddy posted his, along with Chroma23's post in the same thread. Major props for the inspiration, guys! CheechDaddy's StarSaber That was the original idea: Instead of the HG1/144 I'd have mine done with the MG Age-2 with 00-Quanta's sword as the jet's nose. The kit was completed back in May, and I wasn't too fond of the way the original shoulder cannons sticking out the sides of the jet mode, so I started to think of ways the streamline it more, and the first change was to add the cool shoulder fins via pla-plates and remove the cannons. Soon the entire plan was scrapped and changes were made on the fly as I scrounged through my Gundam junkyard for parts I could use to make it as close to the IDW design as possible while keeping Age-2's transformation intact. Total killcount of parts used (100% Plastic Kits w/ no added Transformers, 99% Bandai authentic!): 1/100 Dynames for the head 1/100 Aile Strike for the wings 1/100 Kyrios for his feet 1/100 00 Gundam for his 'inner backpack' MG Musha Gundam shoulder armors MG Strike IWSP for the legs side thrusters MG FAZZ for chest armor+backpack MG RX-78 3.0 for core fighter + lovely hands MG 00 Quanta for the sword HG Virtue Legs for his fat arms, the 'Cap' of his head, and sweet ass HG Seravee for rear feet armor MacrossF Alto's Valkyrie for head antennas + shoulder armor joints RG Zeta for the jet nose + wings + chest armor joints Kotobukiya SRW R-1 for the leg wings More random old parts I don't remember which kits they're from! But the star of the entire transformation, apart from Age-2, was THIS: Gunpla Battle Arm Arms It was released quite recently and just in time when I was scratching my head as to what joints to use that's both light and small without being fragile and still fit into the final look. Seriously awesome and the main reason the custom got further upgrades to it. I'd totally recommend this kit if you're stuck in the same situtation as I was; it's cheap (costs about 6-7USD on HLJ) and functional 2months and all was the planning stage of the entire project. The cutting + painting was done in just about a week. Rather being the psychopath he was in MTMTE I envisioned him as the original Starsaber, modernized (just so I could stick some Autobot logos and maybe prepare him for hopefully a VictorySaber mode later) Tried to keep his signature look throughout the entire project; Squarish cap, big chest, tall shoulders, bulky arms and legs, and red pants (easily done by cutting the tailend of the skirt armor & sticking them to the hip armors). Really love the way he turned out Wings rotates on 3-axis to allow maximum freedom for those huge shoulders while posing. Sword attachs to a clip piece that fits by friction to his hip armor. Transformation Upper Body Rotate arms/shoulder tips, lift up chest armor/innerbackpack, push head/waist down (basic Age2 transformation). Head's on 180 because I messed up on the antenna's clearance Rotate & transforms corefighter Backpack Rotate to have wings further out. Pullout Zeta wing tips. Hips/Legs(note: Beamsabers discarded because they're blocking the ass in transformation ) Spread hip joints apart, sideskirts points up, transforms leg wings, lifts up shin armors to reveal inner shin armors. Chickenlegged and rotate inner shin amors, which will hide the hands. Attach nosecone/sword to complete. COMPLETE! It's possible to transform him without taking him apart; It's easier to show you guys how he works this way G1 Boxart pose CHAAAAAAARGE! "Today you either stand with us... or you stand against me." Let's say GO! with FAZZ Optimus/Ginrai with MP Grimlock & Hexatron Fun with Blacklight A few more shots from different angles available HERE on photobucket Cheers!
looks great i think he used alot of various gundams pieced together. i can see gundam age (hips and legs) and Z (nosecone) at the very least, and i am not a gundam fan myself so my knowledge is limited
if hasbro's gonna give us a generations star saber in the near future, it damn well better be something like this! amazing outstanding and all around awesome work here!
This is Knucken Futz....Awesome job! Can't wait to see the vehicle mode. Were you able to maintain the brain master and head master components?
this is awesome i love starsaber but i don't like him as much in idw comic though this is a awesome custom
