Progress pics of MFT's upcoming ASTROTRAIN, designed by the same Mechanic Studio that has been doing their original, G1-inspired figures.

MFT alludes to it being around 12cm tall in comment replies.

Please delete if this is a duplicate thread. I didn't see one.

Hmmmn, 2-10-0's are rare in Japan AFAIK, that's not his G1 alt-mode.

    It's crazy-close:

All the right forms, nods, and details seem to be there. The biggest, erm, departure is probably the detailing above the rear two wheels.

And those two rear wheels are what separates a 2-8-2 (G1 Astrotrain) and a 2-10-0 (this toy). Steam locomotives are utterly and totally defined, named, and classified by their wheels, worldwide, since the beginning. It's a universal language understood and shared across all countries.

Changing the wheels COMPLETELY changes the locomotive, to the greatest degree possible. It's like adding a wing to a biplane----it's then a triplane, and fundamentally no longer the same type of plane.

You cannot make a steam locomotive more different than itself, then by changing its wheels. It's like a red bluebird, or a tiger without stripes. You've removed its defining characteristic.

Also, it's means the designer is just doing some fantasy vehicle that "looks like a train" and is not referencing the real thing. Which I abhor in any character that had a very specific, real-world alt-mode. It's not G1 Astrotrain, if you're inventing an alt-mode.

I have a feeling the majority of people don't care too much about that detail. To most people its a small difference. It's a legends scale figure, not mp.

I get why it would make a difference to fans that also love trains, though.
Can you post some example pics of how it should look? I'll send them to them. The worst that'll happen is they'll ignore it.

By the way, weren't you also an advocate for accurate alt-mode dinobots? I seem to recall seeing this same passion for detail before and being a fan of it.

NOCV, glad you got to start this thread. If his bot mode is 12cm, then he will be impossible to refuse. Hope his bot mode looks as good as the Alts

It'll be hilarious when they reveal his robot mode and it's basically the G1 toy with two points of articulation.

Nah, I know MFT is gonna knock it out of the park.

    Interesting that you can see
His chest comprising the shuttle top.

Oh no doubt, I'm not saying it's unreasonable to want an accurate train mode at all, just making assumptions as to why MFT themselves didn't think it was a major change/deal.

Well I mean trying to get a fully accurate space shuttle, train and a bot mode wouldn't be realistic in toy form, especially at this size. But I kinda like it because it very much emulates the original toy shuttle mode, gappy, crappy and happy.

I’m pretty sure fantasy vehicle that looks like something and not referencing the real thing is basically the entirety of G1 Sunbow animation.

I’m thrilled we’re getting an Astrotrain in this scale that closely resembles the original toy and most likely the animated character.
