I managed to get an order in for Ronin. Mezcos site was really lagging and crashed but it reloaded in enough time to complete my preorder. He looks really cool. I’d still rather have the Doctor Strange exclusive. If anyone wants to trade I might be down. I’m currently waitlisted on Strange and really want to get him.
I had it in my cart and thought about it but decided to pass. Don’t need it, want it, and didn’t want to flip it.
Cool figure, shame it's an ultra hard to get exclusive. Curious as to who that black samurai figure is cameoing in Wolvy's photos...
I'm not a true Wolverine/Logan fan, however, there's a possibility that it can be one of the generic samurai warriors that Mezco has used for photo shots. Edit: Here's a thought. If anyone can digi-bash/super impose Old Man Logan's scruffy normal face over the regular Ronin version, I would like to see it how it looks (might be totally off though).
I think they like a slightly pissed off fan base. Or, they like when their figures are selling for $500+ in the aftermarket AND they have a pissed off fan base.
Maybe they think he wouldn't sell in high enough numbers to justify a full release...but by that logic...why make him at all? To recoup mold costs? Are they pulling Hasbros in this line?
I did a little digging up on this version of Wolvie. I read on the Mezco One:12 thread on MW that is based on MCU's 5 issue of Ronin 5 in where Wolvie, Betsy, Banner, Wade, and Frank gets placed in 17th century Japan and each of the characters has their own vendettas to solve. And to boot, it's also based on Akira Kurosawa's films.
I don't understand why they don't just make these things made to order or something similar. There's got to be a way to keep these things feeling exlusive/premium for people so that the value is maintained, while still letting enough people get their hands on them.
That Ronin Wolverine was made for my collection which means that I'm going to probably pay through the nose to get one. Killing me Mezco, killing me...
Seems like they are more interested in the artificial scarcity and rapid inflation of prices as soon as they sell out than making collectors happy. Unlike with TF MPs, that often at least retain their value and are made in enough quantities so that everyone can get one.
Except Beast Wars. They blow up in value once sold out. But at least with those you know they'll always get another release.
I think Cheetor did once Dinobot was announced because of fear. And Dinobot because people freaked out that he sold out quickly (because Hasbro Asia didn't produce them). I do agree with you that another release is bound to happen sooner rather than later, so should hopefully take care of those who missed them the first time
Yeah, I would love to see other publishers get figures in the One:12 line like The Rocketeer, Concrete, Savage Dragon, Hellboy and BPRD, Madman, etc. I also wish they would finish up the original Star Trek crew, but from what I was seeing on the Star Trek licensing page, Mezco no longer shows up. That really sucks because the three characters they made(plus Spock variants) were pure perfection.
I couldn’t possibly agree more. These guys came on the scene with a bunch of licenses but a few years on and it’s all Marvel and DC. I am pretty stoked for their Popeye but yeah not finishing the ST crew sucks, hard. I just assume it’s all demand driven, more people are just going to buy a 13th version of Batman. I would kill for them to handle Rocketeer one of the best comic character designs ever. While we’re dreaming a Shadow would be amazing, or a Phantom.
I share the disappointment in Dr McCoy never seeing a release. Same with that captain's chair that never materialized. Not having been able to sell a single Kirk for the MSRP, though, I see why they bailed. Their customers aren't so much collectors as shops catering to collectors. If I was still active, I'd be more interested in short runs that people go ballistic over because scarcity than quality products that I know will sit for years and years.
A collectable store in Canada is asking $240 CDN for the Ronin Wolvie. That's literally one additional Macross valk (DX YF-19) or another 1/6th figure for my collection.
