In Return of Optimus Prime Metroplex was shut down but there were already infected beings walking on him. Shouldn't he had been infected before he was shutdown? Why don't we see him reactivated at the start of Rebirth? He could had transformed and beat the whole decipticon army.
Maybe they were keeping Metroplex sidelined to conserve energy. Kup said something about how they had been handling the 'Cons with ease after OP's return, so maybe Metroplex wasn't as vital as before. +-MWG-+
He's too big of a robot to get infected by puny infection. But delay the shutdown and it might be chaotic
...yet he was very much active in Headmasters - why is it that the American show never bothered showing his vehicle mode anyway?
You know, I was just watching this set of episodes yesterday & was wondering the same thing.. Maybe since he was bigger it would have taken longer for the plague to spread and it probably didn't reach his processor before they turned him off. As for why he didn't appear in Rebirth, he was probably in a different part of the galaxy fighting off other cons.
If they accidentally advertised Metroplex too much, everyone would have bought him and then had no money to buy Fortress Maximus.
As a kid, it made perfect sense. Now that you bring it up, it doesn't. The way I saw it back then was that the Autobots only interacted with Metroplex in city mode at that one control station. I just assumed that was where his consciousness was. Like the rest of his body became lifeless streets and buildings.
But sometimes it's fun reading too much into an old cartoon. It's like the difference between knowing a train will derail and actually watching it derail and witnessing how far off the tracks things go. That was my thought as well. When Metroplex transformed to city mode, he essentially became a lifeless husk, limited to the normal functions of a city. His consciousness was relegated to just one core area that could reconnect to the rest of the city when commanded. Until an infected TF entered that core area Metroplex would remain uninfected. Since Metroplex never made an appearance in rebirth (to my knowledge), it could be that when Rodimus said "shut him down" in reality he killed him. In the end though it would have been very entertaining to see an infected Metroplex transform into bot mode and just go berserk
Rebirth? My personal continuity goes into Headmasters and ignores it. Metroplex suffered the same fate as Omega Supreme, he was an older larger pricepoint toy and there was an even bigger and more expensive toy to sell.
We could also ask where was Trypticon when every con in the know universe was attacking autobot city. I've always taken it as metroplex can't leave earth, or at least now with out a ship to carry him and given most of rebirth is not set on earth it makes litle sense for him to be shown.
well as far as his mobile base mode goes, yeah pretty much under used IMO, then again the good guys back then wouldnt be rolling around in a giant armored vehilce. a base stays put. as far as leaving earth ... he could. if the arialbots linked to him where was he during the rebirth? well, on earth! i mean wreckgar spends alot of time on junk and rarely leaves planet right? and during that time did we ever see metroplex on cybertron? no. not to say he couldnt get there. as far as being used during HM ... again not seen off earth or on cybertron before it got blown up ...
