I skimmed most of the topic, and agree with those that say the truce was not true. As for my two cents...

I like the ending in the comic book with Megatron's serious truce, but just not in the context of DOTM. Throughout the remaining trilogy I'd like to see Megatron/Galvatron go back to trying to save his planet instead of just trying to conquer Earth, a side that was touched on in DOTM, but ultimately not expressed too much in AOE.

What I'd like to see from here on out is a Galvatron that slowly realizes that he is one of the causes of the TF race's destruction and begin to side with the Bots more and more against a common foe (the Creators?), with him ultimately doing a TF: Prime Megatron, but with him making the remaining Cons turn "good," trying to atone for their errors. Basically, the truce from the comic book put for the ending of the last movie in the series.

Well if we really think about it. Megatron's words in this cene kind of lay the ground work for Age of Exctintion. He says"Who would you be without me?" to Optimus and in reality Optimus becomes a nobody after Megatron "dies". With the threat gone the humans don't need the autobots anymore so they off them. In fact it probably would have been more beneficial to Optimus if he had let him go right there..

Very interesting and accurate point. I love how the Autobots were, in the end, wrong about at least a certain portion of humanity in that they choose to sacrifice Cybertron and many different Cons and Bots in a dwindling species, only to be hunted and killed by those they wanted to save. Only the reemergence of the Con threat in AOE makes the humans appreciate the Bots again.

Another thing that is interesting about DOTM's ending is that it is Ratchet who is one of the Bots to actually destroy the Pillars, and he is the one to be in focus when the humans first brutally kill of the Bots (order appearance in the movie, not storyline). This is betrayal on a deep level, as he was the one to specifically destroy at least a large portion of his home planet, and he is mercilessly killed by the humans.

All of this ultimately leads to a slight justification of Megatron/Galvatron's hatred of the humans. Spending years being experimented on and then killed by humans would make him anyone bitter, but then his pride mixes in and he ultimately wants to rule the humans as seen in DOTM to show his superiority towards them.

    I see....meh.

Holy Crap...I hadn't even came close to considering that.

It's probably all coincidental since Bay and Kruger don't give a shit if it makes sense.

I've been wondering, when Megatron says the whole truce line, do you think it was meant for Sentinel? I mean he wanted control back over the Decepticons, and Sentinel is a prime, and was now considered the leader of the Cons, so maybe he was talking to Sentinel the whole time. I know in the comics it was meant for OP, but I honestly now think it could of been meant for Sentinel, which is why he sounded so mockery towards whoever he was looking at.

Is it possible it was meant for Sentinel and not Optimus?

He was looking right at Optimus. There's absolutely no way it was directed at Sentinel.

Oh I'm sure it was towards Optimus, but when he said "Afterall where would you be without me Prime" I at first thought about Sentinel, because without Megatron, Sentinel wouldn't be in the position he was in. And he wanted to take back leadership of his Decepticons. So that's why I initially thought he was talking to Sentinel. I haven't checked the scene out lately, but at first it looked like he was looking at Sentinel, but I may be wrong.

Ok, I just watched the video posted on page 1 and to me he is looking at Sentinel, it wasn't till he knocked down Sentinel that he turned to Optimus. Idk to be honest, but I think it's possible he meant it towards Sentinel.

^ Well, he knew how dangerous Sentinel was. Would you take your eyes off of the most powerful Cybertronian around, even if he was down?

You're so funny and clever it hurts.:rolleyes2

We've been at this for several years now, I still can't believe people are trying to rationalize this.

    The problems are as follows:
    1. The only official movie canon is what is seen on screen. IDW and Hasbro can write all the comic books and have novels written about it, but it means nothing unless it's officially canonized by Bay (or whoever might be directing said film at the time) and/or the producers. Heck, even the writer. None of them have done that, not a single one.

    2. People automatically think it's canon because it has Hasbro's name and IDW's name slapped all over it. It's canon in their minds (they being Hasbro and IDW), but it's not in the majority of the audience's.

Ask anyone who went to see the movies, just a random person off the street, chances are they'd tell you "Megatron's the bad guy, right? Yeah, I remember that truce thing, it was bullshit." Ask a fan and they'll say "Uh, well, you have to understand the complex nature of their relationship and the..."

The only ones who consider everything canon is us, sometimes Hasbro, but Hollywood? What you see is what you get. No more, no less. Once you stop obsessing over the backstories that never really existed because they're not canon, you'll understand how these movies work, and you'll get it quicker and easier.

If you look at the story on the surface, what was presented in the theater, it was not a truce. It was a declaration of a tyrannical regime stating that it wanted to return to power. Even if you want to push the agenda and say Megatron was being genuine in his desire for a truce (I'm not saying that, nor will I ever, but for the sake of argument...) how can you consider that a good thing?

"We need a truce... All I want is to be back in command. Besides, where would YOU be without ME?"

    "...time to find out."

Guess what? The Autobots, and humanity, were better off. We attacked the Autobots in AOE, but prior to that development, the Autobots and everyone on Earth had it better once Megatron and his cronies were gone.

The "truce" would've cemented his position as a murderous tyrant and we would've just let him steamroll right over us. Some truce.

Yeah, I didn't read the first post, but I will say that I don't believe for a second Megaatron's truce was real.

I agree, I just think if you're talking to someone, you should be looking at them from the beginning, but honestly that scene was poorly done.

I really don't understand how anyone can take it seriously in the context of the films.
Further proof can be found in Meg/Galv's actions in AoE.

Megatron just seemed like that deposed dictator who still thinks he's 'large and in charge,' even though he pretty much has little bargaining power. We've seen em: they keep yammering over how they're still the top dog even though they're so far from the truth.

    Yes.

I could sort of understand this prior to AOE....but now it's clearly obvious that was not the case.
