Not sure if this has been brought up or not, but it looks like Megatron has the same red marking on his face that Optimus does. I'm pretty sure this changes a lot from a few current theories. Look closely.

Could be blood. Could be just some random visual add-on that has no explanation (e.g., Starscream's tattoos).
Maybe whatever affect the red crap has on Optimus, it has the opposite affect on Megs? Or maybe Megs is strong enough to overpower the affects of that red stuff? Of course, being that Megs hasn't left Earth and the Creators aren't currently on Earth, I don't know how Megs would come in contact with said red crap. So maybe it's a mark from upgrading to Knight status?

Megatron wears it better. Anyway I don't think it has anything to do with the mind control. I think their is a relation regarding the people behind the markings and mind control, but not as direct as this suggests.

I think if it is on megatron, as I'm not sure it's not just a lense flare, then the common thread seems to be bio forming....maybe the creators or something else is bio forming all transformers....after all in the narrative it says a war between flesh and metal.
Interesting. IIRC, Megatron's concept art does show him with purple in his eyes, but they remain mostly red, so this is perhaps some sort of infection that hasn't completely taken him over. My guess is the Knight weapons were laced with hate plague, in case anyone ever took any of them, and it's been slowly building up over the years. Now it's taken over Optimus but as Megatron took his weapons later, he's still able to fight it.

However I am thinking maybe megatrons lack of vulnerability may stem from his 'lack of soul' he has no spark after his upgrades to galvatron in AOE......quite possibly megatron knew exactly what would happen once sentinel prime turned on the space bridge....the creators would come looking....and that was his plan on how to destroy the autobots once and for all, and he deliberately set in motion events that would not only upgrade his body but hide him from their gaze
Sentinel was gold, not red in his teaser trailer. he was also shown posing all buddy-buddy with OP on the Empire cover. The purple eyes could simply be misdirection.
I would like to combine these two thoughts together. I think that the red paint could be the hate plague since the symptoms do match up with Optimus' behavior. Perhaps Megatron has immunity due to the lack of a spark, the plague is in his systems but without a spark or soul to infect, it only lays dormant. There could also be the possibility that it's taking longer to affect his body thanks to the KSI tech. Kind of like how in G1, Optimus was immune to the hate plague with the help of a metal alloy that was interesting enough created by humans.
