For all discussion of the Blue Bomber and the heroes that came after. Discuss past, present and all your hopes and wishes for the future here. Favorites, least favorites, games you still haven't played etc. What game did you start off with? How did you first discover Mega Man? What were your first thoughts? What order did you play them in? I started off with the first on the NES. I liked and rented it alot. Even though I wasn't very good. I first discovered him on Captain N: The Gamemaster. Order I've played the games in are weird. MM MM4 Soccer MM2 MM3 MM5 MM6 MM7 MM&B BN2 DWR Z2 MMX Z3 MMX3 Z4 MMX2 ZXA MMV MMZ ZX MMX4 MMX8 MMX5 MMX7 MMX6 MM11 The Zero series are my absolute favorite! I also main Mega Man in Smash.
I discovered Mega Man at the video rental store as a kid. The games were consistantly fun, and consistantly in stock, except MM4. I actually liked them better than Mario, believe it or not. I didn't get invested until X. It's still my favorite incarnation of Mega Man, and I will always prefer X to Zero. I love the style, the armors, the music, the level design.. All platformers I play are graded against the X standard.
Mega Man 2 was the first video game I ever played which was at a friends house across the street. A mother and her two sons moved in across the street from us in the summer of 1990 and they introduced us to their Nintendo, with the first game I touched being MM2. From that moment on, I became a Mega Man fan. As for the order of how I played the games, this might not be 100% accurate, but I'm pretty sure it went like this: MM2 MM1 MM4 MMX MM6 MMX2 MM5 MMX3 MM3 MM7 Soccer MM8 MMX4 Legends MMX5 MMX6 MMZero1 MMZero2 BN1 Network Transmssion MMX7 MM&Bass BN2 BN3 MMZero3 MMZero4 BN4 BN5 Zx Zx Advent X8 (last month) The anime adapation of Battle Network was one of the first series I would download fansubs to back in the early 2000s since I hated Viz's bastardized dub. I also grew up on the 90s cartoon series that had Scott McNeil voicing like every other character.
Like a lot of people, I played 2 first. Rented it with a cousin, and had my mind blown. No prior knowledge of the franchise. Then I bought 3, and later on managed to find 1. Played them pretty much in order from there.
Order of played game: MM5 MM6 MM2 MM3 MM4 MM1 MM7 MM8 MM9 MM10 MM11 MMX4 MMX5 MMX1 MMX8 I love this franchise, but I haven't been able to beat the other X game and I don't own any of the later series and I've never cared about the Battle Network and Starforce series. I hope we get Megaman X9 soon as all the rumors that are floating around, if you all remeber from the X collection 2 soundtrack in japan, there was the phrase "The Story of X's fight is not overyet" right next to Megaman X8
Hi, I’m UndertakerPrime and I’m a Mega-addict. All: Hi, UndertakerPrime The first time I noticed anything regarding the Blue Bomber was a small blurb about the first game in The Game Player’s Guide to Nintendo. Here’s a pic (yes, I still own the magazine): It was probably 1988-89 or so when my parents took me along on a visit to my dad’s co-worker’s house. They had kids with an NES and the first game. I only briefly played it and died quickly. Didn’t seem like much. But when MM2 came out, I heard about it all over. It was in all the magazines, and on the cover of Nintendo Power. So I got it, and was soon looking up strategies on which order to beat the bosses. I could regularly beat it from start to finish in one sitting (though years later I found out that the “normal” difficulty was essentially an easy mode ). Since then I’ve bought every main series game on release (well, except for MM11 since I didn’t own any of its platforms at the time), plus I finally went back and bought the NES cart of the first game sometime in the 2000s. I currently own more MM games than any other franchise (these are NOT in the order I played them, I'd never be able to remember that): Mm1 Mm2 Mm3 Mm4 Mm5 Mm6 Mm7 Mm8 Mm9 Mm10 Mm11 Mm1 (GB) Mm2 (GB) Mm3 (GB) Mm4 (GB) Mm5 (GB) Mm Legends Mmx1 Mmx2 Mmx3 Mmx4 Mmx5 Mm Xtreme (GBC) Mm Anniversary Collection (PS2) I've beaten all of these except MM10, MMV (GB), MMX 4 & 5, and MM Xtreme. I also have the Mega Man Complete Works art book:
Welcome to MM Anonymous where the only cure is more Mega Man. That's awesome. I've got the RS boxset and some cds with Mega Man music, toys and a shirt. That's it for my merch.
I admire your taste, sir. I've often seen 5 and 7 derided for various reasons, but they're among my favorites. I'd probably go with 2 5 3 with 7 just a hair behind 3. Also, it's funny to me how many people seem to dislike Spring Man's level (and, by extension, Bounce Man's level) because of the bouncy floors...but I LOVE it. Maybe my favorite single level in the whole franchise. Metal Man's comes a close second, due to Metal Man being awesome, his weapon being awesome, his level being fun, and his stage music kicking ass.
Same here, I've never understood them, despite my love for MM9, I say 7 is the better game. Better artstyle, great robot masters, fun power ups, great Wily Capsol, Bass and his AMAZING Super armors fight. The big criticism I hear thrown at 7 is Megaman is too big. That would be valid if this was an NES sized level, but Megaman fits great size-wise in all the levels except maybe for Freezeman, which in my opinion is the wonkiest level in the game. I've always liked MM5 as I just think it has some of the funniest bosses, and it's more polished than 1-4. I do think MM6-10 is better though.
A funny thing about 7 is I'm pretty sure it was taking cues from the Rockman World (GameBoy) series. Inafune said that the director of the GameBoy games understood Rockman better than he and his own team did. Not sure I agree, but if he felt that way, it makes sense to try a few things from it. Mega Man's larger sprite compared to the screen area is one similarity. So is fighting two groups of four robot masters instead of one group of eight. I think the only weakness of 5 is that the weapons are kinda uninspired. The level design and game play are super tight though. I think it's the peak of the NES games in those areas. The weapon concepts had already peaked with MM2, to be quite honest.
I firmly but respectfully disagree. Megaman 7, Megaman 9, and Megaman 10 all have very good, if not better weapons.
Exactly. Capcom did an amazing job bringing the MM world into the 16-bit era. It's full of little details that exhibit the care that went into it, like the design of Turbo Man's level being all stacks of tires and traffic cones, or the Robot Museum music being a mashup of 3 different tracks from 1-3. IIRC, it's the first game in the series to have non-standard sized (meaning, not typical MM-sized humanoid) Robot Masters (EDIT: except maybe Centaur Man), and the first where the RMs react to their weakness weapon with unique animations. I personally always loved the design of Shade Man's stage, and the Easter Egg music as well. To me, it seems 5 and 6 were getting more flak than the other games even back when they came out, just because the 16-bit era had started, and they were considered obsolete and another unnecessary rehash of the MM concept. Time has been kind to them, though, and with the rise of retro gaming, they are appreciated more. 5 has the best bosses since 2. Yeah, I have to agree. I love everything else about it, but most of the weapons have limited usefulness. The Charge Kick, Crystal Eye, and Power Stone in particular are not very good. The only ones I would regularly use during normal gameplay (that is, outside of boss battles) are the Gravity Hold and Gyro Attack. IMO, MM11 has the strongest selection of weapons since MM2. I mentioned this in the What Are You Playing thread, but I was constantly switching between special weapons in this game, using both their regular and Power Gear forms. Every single one is easy to use and has situations where their characteristics are put to good use.
What are your thoughts on Megaman 11, the lastest game in the series? I enjoyed having megaman back, but I would lie if I was wowed. I love the new Gear Gimmick, The light story, and the Robot Masters, and I hate the art style. The problem is it wasn't as refined as MM9 (and to a lesser extent MM10) but it also really didn't feel like it pushed the series anywhere. I think the Classic Formula is a little tired. Or maybe I just think that because I am desperate for an X9 X9 is a weird one that I hope they do it right (because it is basically is confirmed), I hope they can refine what they learned from X8 as it is a solid template to start working off of. It should have all 3 playable characters with all the main mechanics from X8, but carrying on the story to finally wrapping it up, and hopefully, clear up the X timeline.
