A UK Knock Off Omega
I'm still looking for the Supermarket version toys on the previous page if anyone can assist with that.
If I recall Correctly Grandstand were not KOing things they were licening moulds from various Japanese toymakers and others to make their own Europe specific Transformation / Robot / Vehicle / Building line with bits of the likes of Microman/Micronauts and other things in it doing much the same thing that Hasbro were doing with Transformers.
Omega Supreme wasn't properly released in the UK we got this Black version instead as a Granstand Converter - but it's not a KO it's a proper licenced toy. Just not a Transfomers one. Grandstand was a legit company - that used to be more known for making electronic games in the 1980s.
In short Omega Supreme was not licensed for sale in the UK by Hasbro so someone else was able to get in first.
Omegatron isn't the easiest thing to find in it's original colours - and it would cost a small fortune to post one outside the UK so I guess that is why he's less well known.
I have one though -and I have seen others for sale over recent years - he isn't always super expensive as some people have no idea what it is.
Thought you will get the odd lemon wanting £300 for it too.
I'm sure it's even more complex than that though as the same colourway was released in other countries too. But anyway Omegatron isn't a KO 'as such' he's just not a Transformer.
tx for the explanation. I knew someone would know more than I, but I was afraid Meekutron’s question would get buried before it was properly answered.
thanks for stepping in.
here 'ya go:
Omega Supreme (G1) - Transformers Wiki
...basically, after Tomy designed the toy it was licensed out & released in different parts of the world in 2 different color schemes:
- the Hasbro Omega Supreme colors that we all know
- Toybox's Mechabot-1 colors which were mostly gray/red/white without any yellow or orange (in UK, a company called Grandstand released this as "Omegatron", which is why most people now call this color version by that name)
(EDIT: guess I should've clicked to the next page before replying, looks like Max Tower above me also answered your question!)
I see. So its isolated to the toys. Was wondering if there was any literature/lore with Omega in those colors. Alright thanks!
Well there is a Purple Omega Supreme clone in one of the novels (Omega Sentinel) there is the Blue and White "Guardians" in the Cartoon episode "War Dawn" that is sort of similar to the MFT Blue one only with more white. Also there is a Blue and Red Omega Supreme toy sold in the Energon Line as "Omega Sentinel" The closest fictional version to the Black Omegatron colours is the evil Omega Supreme in the Shattered Glass Fun Pub fiction.
But in toy terms the Black and Red colours matches nicely some other MFT toys they made especially their Sky Stalker homage and their Black Sixshot as well as G2 Sideswipe..
Did someone KO MFT?
I believe this is MFT re-packaging their product for different retail channels in the Asian market - basically, a version for grocers, etc.
Just want the Omega Spreem version, don't need Doc or the new head.
Oh, wow! Has the red/black shown up at any etailers yet???
I got one off of ebay a few weeks ago. It's still in the mail.
Yes it's been out for months - the one that is hard to get is the supermarket one with no yellow on it.
i think Toy Dojo still has it -MFT Ancient Black
Wasn't there an oversized ko of this teased at one point? Wonder if it will ever be made?
I remember some renders of that, wish that it would come out cause this is probably the best looking Omega that would fit my size sale (slightly larger then CW Devey, I think that was about the size of the OS KO)
There was a pic of a yellow prototype, that was said to be an oversized KO, but it never showed up anywhere after that.
I never got around to getting this guy. He's pretty high up there on my want list, but that price tag always slows me down at the last minute.
Me too, I don't really do "Legends" sized so these guys won't fit into my collection in anyway but I am beginning to come around to having separate figures that don't fit in but I still find really cool. I really want to pick up the Red/Black one since that is one of my favorite color schemes (enough that I am still considering getting two Siege Omegas just so I can make one into the red/black deco).
I'm still holding out for a CW sized version. He's the last one missing at that size class...
I think that's called Siege Omega lol
