So my forray into the world of Japanese robot figures that are not transformers continues...first Macross (epic win) then Gundam (win win), and now I want a Mzinger Z figure. I have seen several, but which one should I buy? I really want a fewture Mazinger, as it looks fantastic, but don't want to shell out that kind of money yet until I see one, maybe a Bandai, up close. Any suggestions gang?

The SOC version should be easiest and least inexpensive diecast version to find. Though I'd suggest picking up the Revoltech Mazinkaiser too. Mazinkaiser is the successor to Mazinger (Great is piloted by someone else).

BBTS has Revoltech Mazinkaiser in stock. I also suggest checking out Getter Robo.

Mazinger Z is a great series. I would go with GX-07 (original color scheme) or GX01R (TV series colors) , they are both the same price $60-70. If you want to spend more you can get an Aoshima Mazinkaiser, they are hard to find now though about $150. All of these figures have limited articulation, but they are awesome.

It might sound crazy, but if you have the cash to pick up one of the new Fewture Mazingers I would do it now. I just got mine delivered today and they are worth every penny, big, metal, and lots of articulation.

My fav GX-07. He has an all black color with a great head sculpt, one of the original Mazinger color schemes.

Both the Fewture 1901 and 1969 Mazingers are awesome

... but the 1901 version is all plastic, while the 1969 version will run you $300+. However, the 1901 version will probably only put you back 50-60 bones, and its almost more outlandish and stylish looking than its more expensive cousin. The hong kong version is most closely matched to the GX-07 Bandai Mazinger Z OVA version.

So barring those, the Bandai S.O.C. GX-01R or GX-07 (my personal pick of the two, though it lacks the belly missile I like the proportions and look more) are both good die-cast bets.

I dont know nothing about Mazinger but any figure done by Fewture rocks so hard. So over a year ago I was able to get the 1901ad version along with Garada and Aflodia for about $75.

Too bad the Doublas, Bossbot, Getters line and the new Mazingers cost so damn much or else I would ogtten those too. Would of been nice if Fewture made those figures the same materials as the Mazingers 1901ad to keep the price range down, would of so much loved to get all the Getters. I also own a ton of Fewture Devilmans too, I dont even know nothing about Devilman.

Very nice. Just picked up this guy for 50 shipped on Ebay. Does he come with the wings or is that another set? Beautiful, man, beautiful.

I"m envious of you having the Scrander for the 1901 Maz. And yes, he IS beautiful.

Sunny: The Scrander (wings) are like a "build an accessory" addon, with one piece being included with each of the 1901 Mazinger figures. Because the line wasn't finished, The only way to get the entire Scrander set is to get either the Mazinger/Garada or Mazinger/Garada/Aflodai set, which fewture decided to put all the parts into because they knew they weren't going to finish the line. Sad, because the Scrander looks absolutely awesome. I wish there was some way to get the full set for my Maz, but all I have is one wing :(

I recommend the SOC version from Bandai because not only is he well made and affordable but would look good if you decide to go further into the Chokogin line. Besides, the SOC like already has some of the Mazinger's cast members! LOL!
