Though I love the idea and it makes me think of when we used to get Transformers figures just for the hell of it without any presence in the shows or films, this thing is waaaaay too big and because of that, it's gonna cost too much. These should be combiner wars sizes. Voyager for torso and deluxes for limbs so they can fit with our existing AOE style dinobots. Five 3rd party leader sized figures is gonna be at least $500+ when its all said and done.

Tough to say, considering they're both based on real vehicles.

So Prime inspired movie dinos... Combiners too... YES PLEASE!!!

Edit - new info hints this could be 3 bot combiner!? My guess would be a Scorn like fig for both arms and Slag like fig for both legs with you know who as the torso... ;)

Looks like an original toy rather than any sort of unofficial third party thing. Which i like.

This is not a defining reason why they aren't a "3P." Daim has reported them as such, and he's been reporting newd like this for a while.

You'll learn that many 3Ps do what they want. Hopefully, you'll also learn to not speak so definitively in the future, as making up facts based on your sole opinion doesn't mean it's right. That's how rumors get started.

Not trying to be a dick here, but if it's not a straight copy and then modified in some way, it's still 3P and not a KO by definition, even if the "design cues" are there.

I think some people are taking what I said the wrong way. Matrix Prime Toys is a third party group. I don't believe this particular set of toys is a third party item. I think a Chinese toy company has contracted them to design toys for sale at Chinese retail.

I'm basing this on two things. First, the style of the toy is more in line with a retail item than a third party one. Secondly, that other prototype you see directly behind it is also a retail item. It's part of a set of dinosaurs that transform into guns, and also combine into a large robot.

Huh, so a 3rd party toy that takes slight inspiration from an existing Hasbro design without completely ripping it off? I'm impressed.

And maybe it's just me but the robot mode really gives me a Transformers Animated movie Grimlock vibe. Just the way the toy is proportioned and how the head sculpt looks. Just, I don't know, looks almost Animated to me which actually makes me want it a bit more.

I'm intrigued I like the vaguely Movie/Animated/PRID hybrid style. I may bite if Benscollectables reviews one so I can get a good look.

Yup. This is 3rd Party, since it's not main line Hasbro/Takara produced figures. Not KOs as these aren't direct copies of already produced figures, though likely inspired or influenced by the movie characters. :)

Never said they were KOs. I just said they weren't traditional 3P toys and are probably made for Chinese retail rather than collectors in the west.

    Not third party Transformer?

    1. The company is called "MatrixPrime Toys"... two Transformers references in their company name!
    2. The call the first figure MPT-01, using the Japanese convention of assigning release numbers to all Transformers toys.
    3. In the Chinese blurb they describe the Grimlock figure as "Leader Class", the using the Hasbro Transformers sizing class for figures about 8-9 inches tall.
    4. The figures seem to be inspired by AOE Grimlock, Slug and at least one other Dinobot (the text calls them a "triple combination, so it might just be three figures).

I'm willing to call them a third party Transformer company.

BTW - If you mean Star Rescue Team (Star Cat is something else, this board mislabels the toy in the forum!), the designer of those toys worked for TFC and Junkion Blacksmith (he made Hercules and the Infinity Warfare set), and he planned to release the Star Rescue combiners in G1 Dinobot and Defensor colors in a limited run for collectors, but that deal fell through.

It's surprising that a third party movie based figure is coming out, the robot mode doesn't really resemble aoe grimlock though.

The sculpt for the robot mode is really unique, though. It's surprising to me a design that has such a smooth and organic styling, as opposed to warbotron, who releases toys with a blocky and angular styling. This toy being a Combiner sounds like a piggyback off the other dinobot Combiner, maybe just because, like for extra features or something for children maybe.

Why is this figure a Combiner?

Why? Was someone really in want for a new AOE Grimlock?
