The Eagle & The Bee
The wings size reduction is really a smart move on mp-52. Is there another Starscream version that does this trick ? It's the first thing I noticed on the Deformation that bothered me
For me this is MP52's Masterpiece moment. Considering how small and trivial it sounds the wing span in bot mode is massively reduced. It not only improves bot profile but hugely helps with display.
Awesome alt mode shot, @chchchch ! Makes me realize I need to change mine again…
52’s shrinking wings are incredible, but the idea was there in Kobayashi’s unproduced MP-03 prototype, where the wings folded back near their base and then out, making them both shorter and giving the arms more clearance. Kawamori did away with that when he was brought on though, giving them “bat wings” to give the hip kibble clearance.
Just for the hell of it; I pulled up some stills of Seeker Gerwalk mode found in Season 2. Most are slight pauses in mid transformation, just long enough for the audience to recognize it’s a thing. In Dinobot Island part2, Skywarp actually used the Gerwalk mode during battle to change course in mid flight. The last pic is from Megatron’s Master Plan part 2.
The way the wings fold backwards, then out again, reducing the width and giving clearance for arm articulation, was actually a feature of the very first MP-03 prototype! The MP-3/11 wings still have one of those double joints - you'll notice you can fold the wings back 90 degrees - but the other was sacrificed for the splaying out joint that Kawamori added in his redesign. Such a shame, imho, they didn't go all the way back to that original prototype for MP-11 - it does quite a few things better!
EDIT: Ha ha ninja'd by @Dean ML
Personally, I'm glad there are some differences so I could justify getting the Deformation one for Thundercracker. 2 of the same mold(Had SW on PO before i decided to bite on SS) is overkill for me haha.
Interestingly, the MP03/11 design actually has a waist swivel. The problem was his waist/side skirts gets in the way when you rotate the waist, so it ended up being useless.
Yeah pretty useless, but I find the figure is floppy enough you can force it for a pose if needed...
LOL 52-Scream looks like he's starring at a haunted reflection
So, AJP have no stock. There's a 3P retailer on there who will ship via amazon, so I could buy that, but it ¥7000 more!
Plus, because I bought a gift card and used that (locking in the exchange rate) I'll only get a gift card refund. And only once they get it back.
No chance. I think my only option right now is to glue the arm and see how it goes, or buy it from Kapow (about the same price as the AJP 3P seller). At least then I'm not accumulating more gift card balance than necessary...
is this the right stuff? had my figure laying down out the way just went to try and stand it and just keeps falling over so needs doing bad want to put it in the display cabinet
Not sure if anyone else has taken their Starscream legs apart. But here are a few pics of mine.
One side of mine has cracks in the ankle pivot. I might try to 3d print a small ring to slide over the cracked area, but there isn't much room to work with. I wish takara would have placed a small metal band around it to reinforce that area.
Would you mind posting a brief tutorial how to open up his leg?
you might be better off with Tamiya thin cement or gorilla glue as that will seal the crack and enforce the plastic.
Not sure, that’s not what it’s branded as in the US now afaik, not sure about the UK tho.
No, you want the Revive It Floor Gloss:
Tried super glue. It's solved the broken bit, but the cracked bit broke after I filled then with it. Into smaller pieces, so it's dead.
Plus, I noticed a small crack opening on the forearm when I put the hand back in, so it's a goner. Also noticed similar on the good arm...
Now I have to decide on paying for a new one (and £50 extra) in cash for a replacement to harvest parts, to then return the dud to amazon and get a refund to a gift card, or just sending it back and getting the gift card, then waiting for a reissue/second run...
I'm leaning towards the latter.
Gotta pick this guy up. Despite any QC issues, he's just to gorgeous not to get. Like he jumped right off the screen. Plus, Starscream is my favorite Transformer.
It's funny. I was there when MP-03 was released, and at the time it blew me away. I couldn't believe how awesome a "modern" Transformer could look in terms of approximating the cartoon look. Then MP-11 came out, and it shocked me how much better that figure looked, and how funky and antiquated MP-03 looked in comparison. Now, same thing is happening again. While it's hard to imagine something better. . .I've learned my lesson and will never say never.
