Hasui-san said in one of the interviews that the success of sales of MP-12 showed the higher ups at TT that there was a strong enough market for this level of toy with this target of pricepoints that convinced them to shake loose additional resources for the minor retools for MP-17 to 19 that gave three virtually identical toys their own sense of character. The differences in MP-19 are IMO huge in setting Smokescreen apart from Prowl.

It's impossible to be certain what would have happened exactly, but if they stuck to the original MP-1 scale (for which nothing other than the MP-1 redecos and MP-5 were properly scaled), it's hard to say with confidence that a "basic" MP carbot (as opposed to an iconic character like OP) would have sold well at say +25% of the price for +25% of the scale to bring as much widespread acceptance as the MP line enjoys today with the fandom. We could still be in the days where MP's were released few and far between with no real unified concept in scale/feel like we've enjoyed since the MP-9/10 paradigm shift. I tried to find a less pretentious phrase than "paradigm shift", but really it was that big of a thing.

I'm feeling really good about where Tracks is going with all that in mind, although I'm very much curious to see where they are going to go with Ironhide/Ratchet with transforming a bulkier (and hollow?) van into a bot that should stand a good head over your average carbot.

 

I would have preferred a darker grey color, but I can see why they would go with a lighter one. It adds more contrast.

Alternators Tracks did not come with flames. It was the Red repaint that came with the flames.

It is very possible they wont be allowed to put the flames on it if GM says "No". They have every right to. Of course that could be solved by including a sticker you have to apply yourself. And if not then there is always reprolabels that will most likely make a set for this guy.

But just assuming it WILL have a flame on it like it's fact, does not make it a fact.

In this case I hope it's toy accurate if it's there. The Toon one is so low detail it doesn't look anywhere near as elegant as the toy flames or the ones you tend to see on real cars. The toon was just too simplified and limited in colors. Imagine seeing the toon flames with all the reds and oranges and yellows.  

(I know because of all this news you might have missed my reply to you from the previous convo. You don't have to reply to it, I'm just hoping you got to see it at least.)

Just pre-ordered MP Tracks through Robot Kingdom: just under $79 after shipping. Not bad considering other places have it for a penny less than $80 before shipping.

 

I actually have 4 on preorder lol. I never buy multiples of ANY Transformer but MP TRACKS is a HUGE exception to my one only rule:

1 for Bot mode
1 for alt car mode
1 for alt flight mode
1 to keep MIB!

This will be the only figure I ever go this crazy for.

 

I'm being honest here. I think you should get an additional 2.

1 for backup in case you break one.
1 that you can just mess with and not worry about wearing out the joints or the paint etc...

That gives you an all-3-mode pristine display, one to keep MISB, an additional backup, and 1 to have fun with.

Just a thought, especially since right now will be the cheapest and easiest to get this will probably ever be. I know 'when' they release Trailbreaker I'm going to go a bit overboard on him. I think it's just fine to go a little bit crazy on that special one figure.

 

If we're seeing painted prototype photos that look like this, the designer has already gotten past that point and was given ample time. In other words, the major design process is done, if the designer is doing anything on Tracks now it's likely some fine-tuning.

 

Or he would have been great if the blue leg parts were die-cast and the upper body was plastic. As it is, MP-01 is really top heavy.

 

My focus was going to be the larger box MP figures.. I also always despised Tracks character in the cartoons and really didn't like his flying mode but man oh man this figure is incredible. So well thought out and executed. I'm going to get him and possibly some of the other car bots to display with Ultra Magnus like the deleted movie scene where they fight Devastator. Love the accessories! I do see a possible Blaster in the future. His tapes are way easier to engineer than Soundwaves also.

 

No I meant my reply to that reply. I was saying thanks too and how nice it was to be able to have civil conversations on such things.

A couple of months ago, I thought to myself, "Considering the challenge to obtain the rights to create a Masterpiece Transformer from a VW Beetle, I'm sure it would be really easy for Takara to give the green light for Tracks." And...here we are, Tracks is on the way. Actually, Tracks, is the least favourite of the car characters, given his personality. However, when I saw the prototype and then colored photos, I just had to get him because of his sexy bot design and that just super awesome flight mode!

I showed my son a picture of the soon to be released Tracks and his response was, "That's so boss!" Yep, I'll be buying this for my son. As for Road Rage, I might get her, if Takara doesn't release her as a convention exclusive.

Just imagine how the conversation might turn out it a Transformer fan came up to his coworkers and said, "Hey, I just got Road Rage. It's so awesome!"

 

I don't trust this. They always show the mp car bots from a good view, just like with wheeljack last time. Show us the back in not mode, just how many holes and opening's does this guy have?
